• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

This weeks GD is worth a watch.

Amazing house built virtually single handed over 10yrs using mainly locally sourced timber.
The couple involved really enjoyed the process even though they had limited funds. It was nice to see them cheerful throughout the build.

Thanks for the heads up. I find the massive budgets and mock drama a bit much in this program sometimes. This sounds more like my cup of tea.

They certainly had the right attitude. The pleasure of building rather than just the end result. Excellent watch.
 
I felt quite emotional watching tbh. How wonderful to have the freedom to build like that. The children have gained so much from being around it whilst growing up. I would love to be in that position.

Unlike last week, where he put so much money and effort into a property wedged into a tiny plot in the middle of London.
 
I found it all a bit odd really, ten years and he still hadn’t finished the roof in some places. :eusa-doh: I wonder if the recent storms have ripped off some of the temporary covering?
 
The roof structure, fan ceiling and “cathedral” window were just amazing as was the reed wattling and lime render, even a rammed earth floor too.
Those door hinges, playful light switches, the fan arch bosses, column details, the list goes on!

I enjoyed this one too, very chilled out, though agree it would of been nice or at least a priority (for me) to get the roof finished.

The ethos of making the building process part of your life was refreshing, tho my wife would go nuts at me [emoji3]

I enjoyed grand designs and they ended up with a beautiful house. I can quite stop thinking it's a white elephant, as his kids are grown up.
I am going to have a loft conversion but someone else will do the work, otherwise I will miss out on my kids growing up. Such a tricky decision as I would love to do it myself.
