Hello everybody!
My name is Charles, but I go here by 'Wood Pigeon', as I have several of them. They are twice as big as 'city' pigeons, and live mainly in the woods (so the name). And since I love making home furnishings out of wood, the name fits me well indeed.
I am 67 years old, retired, and live on the outskirts of a small town, 9 km west of the Sachsenwald Forest, here in the northern German state of Schleswig — Holstein; I am also 9 km east of Hamburg.
When I am not busy doing wood working, I tend to my garden (where I specialise in berries and lilacs). And the dietary needs of all the birds here on my balcony, constantly are literally 'pecking holes' in my budget. Haha! So Ornithology is also my hobby.
But onward to wood working: Since the days of my youth, my father — bless him — came up with the idea of making benchwork for my model railway layouts, using 'L-profile' legs, made of two boards joined together at one edge, with about 5 or 6 screws and then mounted to the framework by two carriage bolts. This type of construction is both strong, and light.
So I have built countless things, over the following decades, also using this method. The boards I use here in Germany are mostly fir, 7.4 cm wide and 18 mm thick. And I use mostly SPAX 45 x 4 mm screws (pre-drilled, and countersunk), plus 50 x 6m carriage bolts.
And my 'machine-park' is mostly outfitted by 'Einhell' — who are very good about selling spare parts. I also have a lot of power tools, but my last purchases were a 'Metabo' 1/2" drill with Jacob's-Chuck, and a 230 Volt power cord (What a dream!), and I also bought a 'Güde' saw sharpening machine for my table saw blades.
(I sharpen all of my hand saw blades myself, with a saw-file.)
So I am looking forward to posting my projects, and various photos, plus also learning things from reading your posts.
