• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Did you get your new car Bob - happy birthday?
I drove past your place on Sunday taking a Granddaughter to Mountbatten School for a "Flute Day" - your driveway seemed quite full but not as full as the school's enormous car parks!
Must have a lot of activities going on there including a Model Aircraft Club.

Thanks for your Birthday greetings Gents. Yes it is a real one and 63 today :shock: .

I collected my new car today and still wading through the books on all the toys and changing the defaults to acceptable levels.
Mainly locking so far. Doors no longer lock as you drive off - really really hate that; also I have an idea to try that will make it impossible to lock the keys inside the car - who ever thought that was a smart feature deserves to be locked out of their car in a blizzard 100 miles from civilisation with no phone coverage.

Apart from that, a very nice drive and returning >50mpg on the way home so pleased. Quite a lot going on the dash if only I could see it! Time for some driving vari-focals I think - made an appointment with the optician for next week as I only have fixed reading glasses at the moment.

It is SWMBO's birthday on Saturday and was our wedding anniversary (36Y) the other day so rolled into one celebration meal out on Saturday.
It is my week to cook so I need to make a start on tonights dinner in a bit.

Congratulations Bob :)

If my car has the keys locked in it, it will automatically crack the boot open a minute amount to allow a way in without being obvious it is unlocked. Maybe yours has the same or it can be enabled if you have keyless entry too. Enjoy getting to know the car.

Thanks Robert. Just tried your idea with the boot lock but that does not open by itself.
thinking about this it can only work by polling the key and that would only be needed in a keyless system. Mine has two proper physical three push button keys and a hole in the steering column for a mechanical key.

What's wrong with the auto locking when you drive off - you can still open the doors and in an accident they unlock anyway?
Prevents thieves stealing stuff whilst stuck in traffic or so I've been told!
I keep the keys in my pocket, so chances of locking them in are very low. I never press the door button down manually anyway so cannot see how I could lock the keys in.

worst lock out I had was in a 1990 ford Econoline American day van.

Hopped in, started it up .. pressed the "open" on the central locking .. and hopped out
Shut the door .. oops, I had pressed "close"
It was all locked up, engine running ! 5l V8 !

They build them a bit stronger than the UK transits ! .. took the AA man ages to get into it ! :lol:

this was a cold Feb night, outside a pub after a club meet Brrrr

Well lets hope you never have an accident where the auto locking fails to release. It is just an unecessary risk in my book.
In the event I'm driving in a dodgy area, I can always lock the doors manually. We both live in a nice area Rod so not many opportunist tea leaves around

The key lock in scenario for this car is to open the boot with the keyfob, place the keys in the load space and shut the boot and they keys are locked in. Like you I would tend to return keys to my pocket but others could well not do so especially those whose clothes tend not to have pockets. It will be something I'll endeavour to disable.

our early 90's golf .. you unlock with the key, and the door unlocks. if you unlock twice, then all the other locks open.
I guess it's the same anti theft thinking.
 
I shall have to try that with the rear hatch door but keeping the spare key handy.[emoji3]
I have the door opening set like that but also have a button to open and close the rear hatch (boot) door.
Locking the doors brings the wing mirrors in and closes any open windows.
As well as the written handbooks, they are reproduced within the iDrive system to view on the screen and there's also an information App with videos to explain the various features.
I'm still wary of using the automatic headlamp dipping system but so far have not been flashed when I've used it.
