• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Evening each,

I'm back! Some of you might remember me from a while ago but for those who don't I am a retired fire officer who now works as a fire safety consultant, having been an adviser on fire safety for a building control department for ten years before I went "solo". In total I have been messing about with fire for forty one years now!
I also have a frequent tendency to do things to pieces of wood, which is why I am back here I guess.

Latest project is a drawer box for our kitchen. The boss says she has had enough of kneeling on the floor to get to the back of the shelves, so..................!

I will let you know how it goes.

The immediate problem is our old heating boiler though. It died yesterday. Water all over my planer bed!

Coincidence, I ran out of oil on Wed, got an emergency delivery yesterday only to find that both tiger loops to my boilers (I have 2 boilers) have gone wonky and wouldn't pull the fuel through.

My tame plumber spent 3 hours last night and is back today. Got one working yesterday but the other isn't playing ball!!

Hate boilers!

Never having had Oil fired boilers, I had to look up tiger loop. I'm amazed that the problem they are meant to solve actually occurs unless people are in the habit of running their tanks dangerously low.
My feeling is sort of supported by the extent their website documents go into to convince readers of the need for them.

My tank has run empty (well not empty, but below the outlet nozzle) about 5 times in the 6 years we've been here.

It's easy to do, even with digital gauges reminding you. Life's busy…

My thoughts exactly !! Perhaps we should nudge Mark every so often to check his oil level :eusa-whistle: ;)
 
I was not so much commenting about running dry but the suggestion from the makers that minute air bubbles in the fuel would continually upset the boiler fuel air mix and lead to inefficiency.
I find it difficult to believe that an oil boiler would be so fussy or indeed control its fuel air mixture with such precision that minute air bubbles make a measurable difference.

I'll move this to another thread so as to not derail the original but I have a very detailed explanation from a UKW forum member who very kindly helped me out when we first moved in here and this first happened. It's less to do with efficiency as such and more about sooting up the valve tip etc meaning a dirty burn and more maintenance required.
