• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hello thought I’d introduce myself I’m Tom 34 years of age with the body of a 70 year old at times.
Recently in the past couple of years my crohns and diviticulitis disease have done a number on me so now I’m focused more on bench work and trying to keep busy and sane and keep out of the missis way a bit lol

I’ve recently made a proper size workbench although I have a small workshop in a barn guarded by large hairy beasts I do tend to work from home as getting about can be a challenge.

I’ve been looking into possible ventures partly tool making Ive made a few awls as well as mallets but there seems a few already at that so not sure what other things to have a crack at and very open to suggestions.

Ahh not new to woodworking but for paid work was always much bigger and heavier but in my spare time I did enjoy little projects I’ll post a few below usually materials I’ve scavenged from places

This forum may be a bit quieter than some, but the signal to noise ratio is better!

It’s quality not quantity that counts just found some places and people very clicky which is fair enough but I’m young and want to learn more still plus many just seem
Into tools and not making things with those tools. We all love tools but I like using them as well
 
I hope you won’t find us too clicky but do differentiate between in jokes and banter amongst groups who know each other socially and clicky.
Yes we have a few close to obsessive hand tools collectors here but they also can tend to make stuff at snails pace naturally. :lol:
Key thing for me is members here have a huge range of skills and interests and almost without exception are willing to take time out and help.
There are no daft questions, we all started somewhere on our wood adventures so don’t be afraid to ask. You may well get a variety of answers so maybe try them out or rephrase the question if we don’t get it first time.

Ha more people ignoring you because your not I don’t know cool in there lol

Anyway woodworking wise I started at 15 it was sanding risers for Coventry council but the village carpenter I worked for finished it as they were a pain to deal with.
Then it was pagodas. And fencing and various other things mabie some interior stuff but not often and also more outdoor craft work like hedglaying.

I started on my own after finishing my degree and not finding work in it so carried on with what I knew lol went on my own in 2014 was much nicer not having to worry about money and customer just my little brown envelope at the end of the week and then but parts for my Bmx bike haha
