We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. I thought I would have a second attempt at introducing myself as my first attempt last month didn't make it to the board for some reason.

I have been messing around with wood for a few years in my spare time as an escape from the day job. It started with over engineering a garden shed for my wife (If only I had seen Mike's thread before starting) and then gradually evolved into other things. The largest piece of furniture I have made so far is an oak book case with walnut strips inlayed, but most of my work is practicing techniques on items that are cruder. I also get various requests from my wife for items to aid her bee keeping.

I have been acquiring various power tools and more recently hand tools which I am practicing with. However as I am limited to a single garage which also needs to store the bikes in it, I don't have lots of space.

I am looking forward to picking up tips and ideas to help me get better at what I do.

I had a carpenter mate who's father made the innards of beehives. Apparently they are made to such fine tolerances. Are you going to make any for your wife?

Not made any innards for bee hives yet, but have made an underfloor entrance which needs to be 9mm wide. Luckily a couple of 9mm drill bits work well as spacers to get the gap spot on.

Hi Mark welcome, look forward to seeing what you make. Thee are plenty here who can offer great practical and experienced advice and it is a nice relaxing place to be.

could I ask does you missus use vertical (langstroth) or horizontal (layens or top bar) hives
 
Hi Droogs, my wife uses National hives which I believe are like Langstroth hives, although I am getting rapidly out of my depth talking about bees!

That's a really nice, well-rounded set of tools! Nothing too excessive and enough to get any job done, and of course, once you're done you've got the wine to top it all off, perfect!
 
Howdy, Mark. Is that a Record 050 I spot there? What with that and the conveniently situated wine rack, I think we'll get along. :D

Hi Alf, well spotted it is a Record 050. The wine rack has now been adjusted though as I have been building a small cupboard for the whetstone grinder which now sits underneath the wine rack. I managed to put some wheels on the grinder so it is easy to get in and out. I just need to build. drawer for the top of the unit to put the grinder jigs in. I was thinking about having a go at cutting some half blind dovetails to make the drawer as I have never had a go at those before!
 
Mine's a Stanley 50. Is there much of a difference? Useful bit of kit, but frustrating at times, and somewhat limited, I find.

I've been trying to use mine (a Record 50 I think) for grooves when I can instead of setting the router up, but often I need a stopped groove which it won't do of course. I did some simple beading with it which was fun, although it needed good timber with the grain running the right way to work well.

I'm as much out of my depth with hand tools as you are with bee keeping, but if you ever hanker after power assisted, i'm your man. :lol: :lol:
Also, I can free up some space for you, get rid of that wetstone grinder (I've just sold mine) and go scary sharp.

A single garage with just a few bicycles in it? Bloody luxury! I dream of all that space...
 
I have a single garage, but I have to leave a through aisle out the back shutter for the gas man to deliver to the tank, so really I only have two walls :cry:
But at least I dont have any bicycles :eusa-dance: :eusa-dance:

My single garage is being fixed by selling the bikes :) that doesn't free up a huge amount of space though as they hang on the wall and don't take up a lot.

Im actually looking at downsizing tools/machines
