• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hi all

Been lurking here for a while, thought I'd better join up.

I've recently returned to woodwork as a hobby after a long absence of only doing house refurbishment related projects. I've now moved to a new house that needs no work so am free to do things that I actually want to do! I'm currently trying to organise my double garage into a workshop and make some furniture out of the wood that I've acquired recently. I also enjoy a bit of metalwork and tinkering with electronics.

Hi Bob

I'm afraid you're mistaking me for somebody else. I've never been to a Waka Weymouth bash unfortunately.

I am familiar though with your extensive knowledge on motors and have read your pdfs on the subject. On the subject of motors, I recently acquired an Electra Beckum KGS301 mitre saw. If you're not already familiar with it, it's unusual in that it has an induction motor, which is the reason I bought it as it is much quieter than most saws. I'm really pleased with it apart from the fact that it doesn't have a brake, so the blade takes a very long time to spin down, which is quite disconcerting. EB made a version of the saw with a brake, but these seem to be as as rare as hens teeth, so I'd like to add some form of electronic braking to mine. There seem to be various ways of doing this, and I wondered what your take on it would be?

It is not something I've tried to do. I have a recollection that I have a circuit somewhere from a Scheppach machine but it might take some finding but I will have look. ISTR that Eric the Viking was working on something a while back. He is a fellow Bristolian and an approachable type chap to often be found lurking on UKW.

Ran into Waka, Martin King and Philly at the Yandles show in April...the Three Woodkateers together in one spot. Happy days :D - Rob
