• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hello

I moved down to Bristol from stoke about 4 years ago after meeting my current wife.

We live just outside Bristol in a house with a slightly bigger than single garage which is a nightmare as I used to have access to a big corner of a large agricultural shed/workshop.

Previously I've been a tinkerer with many things, mostly metal work. I'm a keen DIYer and get stuck into most things.

I left a civil service career last year to retrain as a tree surgeon, and getting back in touch with tree's and wood has reignited a joy of wood fro when I was a little bit working with my late grandad who was an ace carpenter. I inherited a few of his old tools which I'd like to start using, I've bought a few cheap bits and stuff off eBay so I'm getting workshop stuff together. I may get small shed this year just to clear the garage out so I can make it mine properly
 
Hi and welcome to the forum. I too inherited a few tools from ancestors I wish I was as proficient as they were in their use. :D
 
Absolutely, he would fix pretty much anything. I think I inherited a small amount of his ability but we'll see.

I really need somewhere to spread out all my stuff :twisted:

Welcome, look forward to pictures of projects !

Many of my hand tools came from my brother in law (sadly deceased in his late 40's). They were originally his father's and some his grandfather's - both professional carpenters. I keep them well sharpened and tuned up and take pleasure from using tools that were first used (some of them at least) before WW1 and possibly in the late 1800's.

It's Amazing some of the stuff he had. I know what most of it is supposed to do but not necessarily how.

I can also see how labour intensive carpentry and woodwork used to be (and can still be) with lots of if replaced by power tools. Gives deeper meaning to 'a labour of love'

I have some hand tools including some old ones but much prefer something powered to do the work if at all possible!

I am a firm believer of if it does not have a cord and plug, it belongs in a museum.

Looks like Im popping in to Bristol designs on Thursday morning, getting a lift in with the wife and pottering while she goes to an appointment :-)
