• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Good morning all,
this is Paul from claverdon Warwickshire.
i have interests that are wide ranging in metalwork and woodwork, and workshop facilities for both.
looking forward to investigating projects in the forum.
i wonder if there is anyone interested in artillery?

Wotcher, from Mid-Devon.

No, apart from my father was in 92nd Field Regiment RA before and during WW2, and was the last gun to fire at Dunkirk and evacuated on the last day of the Operation Dynamo.

Hi Paul, nice to see you here mate.

Wait until you all see a bit more of what Paul can, and has done…! As Ian says, he’ll fit in here perfectly!

Welcome Paul.

So, is it one workshop divided into two, or two workshops?

Welcome Paul. You are from near my birthplace. My paternal grandparents had a farm and a pub there years ago.

Welcome Paul. I'm afraid I've never had much interest in weaponry of any kind, but I'm definitely interested to hear more about your workshop and what you make. I'm also into both metalwork and woodwork but have to cram both of them (along with a motorbike) into a single garage.

Welcome Paul.

Well my main workshop is metalwork, with a colchester triumph 2000, a thiel mill, a Jan s surface grinder, drill, fly press ,guillotine, die sinker, cnc mill, cnc lathe(tiny one) a horizontal borer ,polisher, 200 ton press, cutter grinder, bandsaw. All in a nice cramped environment, as the workshop is in old stables.
The woodworking shop is in a barn, and consists of radial arm, table saw, planer thicknesser, spindle moulder, drill and mortimer.

That's an impressive-sounding engineering workshop. What sort of work do you do in it?

Welcome. Artillery... only by default that my father was in REME (Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineer) as an Armourer seeing to, what he referred to as, Small Arms. Sadly my father passed away in June 1992. I happened upon four spent 37mm brass cartridge cases from an M16 - last saw daylight on 7th October 1982 when they got wrapped up.

My dad did his national service in the Reme in the early fifties in the Cyprus bust up.
Said he was repairing guns in the greek/ turkish crossfire but it could but it could have easily been making gravy

I'd say that they all got roped in to do all sorts of varying 'duties'. Mine was in the Fleet Air Arm during the 2nd WW, looking after the guns on one of the Swordfish planes - pilot pt it into the drink on his 1st flight and dad had 'very little' (B A) to do for the rest of that trip on the aircraft carrier. Could have been a reason for him then signing up to do 22yrs in the army after the war ended - and doing (being put into) REME as an armourer?
