• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I wouldn’t. Lots of people will still benefit from them and there’s no reason not to leave them. Just move on. ;)
 
Hi Pete, good to see you ( and your magnificent photos) over here.
I tried to get a certain female to delete everything I had 'over there'- 15 years worth - and she was quite straightforward, no clear, simple pathway exists. Another mudderatur agreed.

So, I concur with Mark's advice above, let them stand as help to.others; just don't "feed the machine" any more.

Hi Pete, welcome over the "river". Look forward to seeing your posts. I would recommend leaving what you already put up as removal would wreck a lot of threads with regards readability and also useful info being lost.

I agree about leaving old posts alone. I'm doing the same, though I could quite easily ruin most of them if I chose to. Best thing is to make plenty of new ones on here!

Re your question, years ago when they closed my 9fingers account, all my posts remained despite my requesting deletion but I could not access them to edit or delete them.
I realise they have new management but I doubt they want to remove content if for no other reason than it will break continuiy with threads.

Agreed about leaving old posts alone. It can make a mess. Although whatever those with vested interests in keeping your content might say, I think you have a right to be forgotten ?
 
During my very (nay, extremely) brief time as a moderator there ( :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
I discovered that the reason entire peoples contributions cant be deleted is because of all the hundreds and maybe thousands of times your name is mentioned in every post since you first joined. They all interconnect so someone would have to troll through hundreds of thousands of posts going back to the the very first day you joined.
It truly is a task that no one will ever volunteer for. 8-)
 
Well not that I advocate going down this route because regardless of the past the content is still of value to others, but methinks they're not being very truthful with their statement.

If I were to delete any of you right now, there is a single button to delete you and delete all your content, or delete you and leave your content intact. All done automatically. Won't delete specific mentions of your name of course (as suggested by sunnybob) but would delete every post you ever made, instantly.

As I say, I wouldn't do that simply because unless you were seriously wronged then it just looks spiteful and unnecessary. To quote an oft used quote on a Facebook group I frequent, when people have had enough and leave but decide to tell everyone why they're leaving, they are usually treated to a chorus of "This isn't an airport hun, you don't need to announce your departure..." which always tickles me.

My advice is walk away, head held high, leave your content there as a testament to your time invested, then move onto pastures new and start again. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

I don't know if you prefer to host the pics externally but we spent a lot of time getting the forum photo hosting working well and fairly intuitively.

The reason we went down this route is because of the number of free photo hosting sites that suddenly started charging and photo's went AWOL. If you prefer to keep them external then that's fine, just wanted to make sure you knew there was another option.

I did have a lot of photos on Photobucket before it circled the drain, Photography is one of my other hobbies so I have over 3300 photos on Flickr

Really that’s a question for the mods, and not specifically about Pete’s stuff

But.... some of the memorable ones of Pete’s:

The shooting board plane adaptor gizmo
The fishtail chisel (of which I own an example).
The table build
Shoulder plane (s).
 
Lurker, that's not a bad idea at all. Lots of people don't make much during the winter if they only have a cold shed, so revisiting old projects could be worthwhile. The comments and questions would be different, most likely.
 
Mark, i know even less about software than I do about chisels :shock: , but that was how it was explained to me. The new software used over there is considerably different to the older ones.
Thats all I know, but if I'm wrong, for once it isnt my fault :lol: 8-) .

I have never photo'd WIP's but i spose i could give it a try :) youll then get to see how i keep osmo afloat in filler sales :)

Well now’s the time to start! That’s my favourite rule, if you make something I need photos (not just finished product)! ;)

I learned everything I know about woodworking from posts on UKW from many of you going back 14 years. I want this forum to be the same kind of resource for others who want to start but don’t know where to...
