• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hello everyone!

My name is Mark, I'm 35 and from Didcot in Oxfordshire, fairly recently in the news due to part of the decommissioned power station collapsing.

Ever since I started messing around with off road bikes as a teenager I've wanted a workshop, my workshop, my den. I've taken over my parent's garage. I've filled a summerhouse in rented accommodation. I've struggled in a small single garage in my first home. Now though, I own a house with a garden big enough to have something more to suit my needs.

I like to tinker! I like to fix things, improve things, I like the satisfaction of doing things myself, and doing them properly and learning along the way. I am a keen DIYer, I am hands on with most projects around the house and garden. However I have to admit my woodworking experience/skills leave a lot to be desired!
My two main passions are cars and fishing. For the past nine years I've been playing with Land Rovers, something that try as I might I cannot give up on! I fish the mighty river Thames for specimens - Chub, Pike, Perch, and Barbel. What I call proper fishing - fishing for genuinely wild fish and appreciating the beautiful habitat they dwell in.
Both these hobbies require lots of kit, and that kit needs to live somewhere...

I discovered this site after finding 'building a shed Mike's way' on another site. I read Mike's build for his workshop on here and I was hooked. I wanted a timber workshop and I wanted to build it myself. 2017 is the year I hope to make that dream a reality.
I've spent many, many hours loitering as a guest on TheWoodHaven2. Forums are a wonderful platform for sharing ideas and knowledge, and TheWoodHaven2 is a true gem! I'm blown away by not just the knowledge, but the willingness to share and to help one another.
I hope to do a build thread of sorts, something that not only will help me, develop me and drive me on, but something that will also add to the already vast information about building a 'proper shed' held on this website.

As you no doubt have seen already there are plenty of folks here who are willing and able to help with your project.

Welcome - I read that as you causing the power station to collapse, but on re-reading it realise you simply meant Didcot is famous for that :)

Toyota Landcruiser & Hilux man here. Landrovers seem like a good idea until you've rebuilt the damn things for the third time!!! :lol:

If you've got any sketches and site photos then after just a couple more quick posts to get you past the bot-stopper posting threshold, you can start a new thread in the Workshop Build forum, and you'll get plenty of advice.

Nice area. I worked the TV area for over 30 years and really miss fishing the Thames.

No proper rivers down here, just trouty ones!!!

Thanks Bob! Two young children and a house requiring a lot of work means currently very little time to fritter away fishing!

Thanks! I was thinking about what to have as an Avatar, when that image entered my mind I just knew it'd be perfect!

Never ceases to amaze me - how they are always watching you! I left the timber and the measure on the lawn for two minutes and little Anna was straight on it, hooking the end of the measure on the timber and extending it like a seasoned pro!
 
So it would appear I'm past the threshold and have made a convincing impersonation of an human! With that in mind, hopefully later today I will put together the first post of my build.
