• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Who said HMRC were terrible?

Just looked into the first of this new financial years monthly pension payment and was horrified to see a K tax coding and eye-watering tax.

Registered and logged on to the new Personal Tax/Pensions website which is very clear and easy to use and immediately saw what the issue was.

Rang their number, filtered by an excellent voice-recognition (IVR) system, answered within a few minutes, very helpful lass...told her why the tax code was wrong, she instantly amended the details, and while I was on the phone automatically generated the new codes to be sent to my various pension providers plus a copy to myself.

All sorted - ten minutes.

Excellent :eusa-clap:

Just need to eat bread and water for the rest of the month until I get the rebate next month.

Shouldn't be a problem though as you old folks don't eat much anyway do you…? :eusa-whistle:

Roger, I'm familiar with the Self assessment site or "data input to support legalised theft"

Is there now another access point to ones personal tax/pension details?

if so do you have a link please.

TIA

Bob

Here you go, Bob

https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/account/ ... e=/account

It doesn't cover pension per se..only what tax codes are given to each of your providers.

Thank Roger, Sadly about as good as a chocolate teapot to me unless I give them my mobile number and there is no way that is going to happen!

But thanks anyway.

Bob

It's part of two-part verification. Why the reticence in giving them your mobile? They know your DoB, your address, your bank details, your pension, your email address....

No disrespect to you here Bob but it does make me smile to myself when people (you are not alone here) have that mentality about their mobile number.

Your mobile vendor have your number (unless your PAYG I guess) and have given it out to thousands of people without your agreement or knowledge (whether they claim not to have or not), so the reticence to use it in a government site, where you have the option to choose to tell them not to use your data, seems more than a little paranoid.

As Roger says, they use it to securely send you your PIN and any notifications of changes to your tax status etc, which like it or not is what the majority of people want. It's much easier to miss an email than it is a text, and they don't send any unsolicited ones (I've been registered for 3 years for self assessment and the only time I have had texts is when I've changed my password, to remind me I have to submit my form or to alert me to new notifications in my status since I elected to go paperless).

Take the foil hat off and join us in the new world ;)

Cheers
Mark
