• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hi all

Total newbie to the site, only just discovered it but looking through the threads I see a lot of familiar names from another forum.

From the south of the UK and have been woodworking for nearly 20 years, mostly furniture and cabinet making with a splash of joinery thrown in. I enjoy any thing creative.

Recently I have focused my spare time on metal work and hand tools in particular which is a totally new adventure for me but over the last year I have developed a real passion for it.

Looking forward to being part of and contributing to the forum.

Great to see you here, I've been following your plane building with a lot of interest, your patience and skills are more than a little impressive.

Now the question is, do I port my current thread here for new people to see? It's a large thread but I like that it's a continuation of my progress.
 
Yep. Go for it. I used to copy threads across between here and UKW, as do a number of others.

Welcome from me too.
If you port (copy) the existing threads then success depends on how your photos are stored. If they are stored by the other forum on their servers then the copy here will not show photos in which case the best option might be to start a thread here and simply start with a link to the posts elsewhere and a brief resume.

If your photos are hosted by other means then a copy should work well.

Easiest way to check would be to do a test copy of one of your posts that includes a photo and see how it works here. You can always delete it (or we mods can do it for you) once you have decided which route you want to take.

one more post from you and the moderation thing should go away and post will appear immediately after posting.

Your threads is one of my few remaining motivations for still logging in to the dark place so I for one would be more than happy to be able to view here instead. :eusa-dance:

You might be able to use the BB code feature of the other forum to make the copying very straightforward with externally hosted images. Go to your thread on the other forum, pick a post, click "Edit" at the bottom of the page, then click the little hideously misshapen† gear-icon in the top right.

All the images in the post should disappear and be replaced with [ img ] tags. You should then be able to copy the entire contents of the post to the clipboard and paste it into a thread here.

† Sorry, I get excessively worked up about square cut rather than involute gears
