• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have a confession

I lost it this morning during a call to Orange

(after failing to find the information on their website and then after being cut off twice, and then on-hold for ten minutes then put through to someone who couldn't help who put me through to someone else who couldn't help to be cut-off yet again. )

Me - Good morning, I (well, actually it's my wife's phone that she uses rarely..you have to wipe the cobwebs off before you turn it on) I got a text saying that the PAYG Terms and Conditions were changing in June and I'd like to know what they are. Can you please tell me where on your website I can find these details?

Call centre in an old colony - Can you please tell me the second digit from your four digit code?

Me - (thinks....what four digit code?) I'm sorry but I have no idea. I don't recall ever setting one up. I have a password for my monthly account but no four digit code.

Call centre in an old colony - Can you please tell me when you last topped up?

Me - I'm sorry but I rarely top this phone up and have no idea when I last topped it up

Call centre in an old colony - Can you please tell me how much you last topped up?

Me - I'm sorry but I rarely top this phone up and have no idea when I last topped it up or by how much. It might have been £5 or £10 or even £20.

Call centre in an old colony - You have to tell me which one.

Me -( through gritted teeth and very very slowly) As I have told you twice I am sorry but I hardly use this phone, hardly ever top it up and have absolutely no idea when or by how much. I am after a URL on your website. Nothing to do with any confidential data regarding this phone.

Call centre in an old colony - Unless you can tell me when or by how much I cannot give you this information.

Me - ( finally losing it ) - How can I explain this to you any more clearly? I am not asking for any confidential data on this phone. All I am after is a f*****g URL that is PUBLICLY AVAILABLE on your PUBLICLY AVAILABLE website.

I rang off. Yeah--yeah - I know, he was only following a script.

I know he's only following a script, and I think this is part of the problem- no flexibility no logic.. They should be able to say, ok fine I'm supposed to do the whole security clearance thing, but as you're asking a simple question and not trying to take a poo in the Queen's handbag I can probably answer you without immediate dismissal and public flogging.

I don't blame you, as regrettable as it is it's bloody hard to maintain an even keel in the face of such bureaucracy!

:obscene-drinkingcheers:

Sounds fair enough to me!

I fume even with our service desk in work for the same things and have lost it, although not to that degree, on more than one occasion. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Cheers
Mark

Good on you Roger!

I recently had a bit of a 'almost losing it session' with Orange last week. After almost 3 years in the shop, I'm now getting a landline installed and what a palaver that was! This then developed into phoning Orange to find out how I could change my contract to save money. Only to learn I was on a 'monthly rollover' which mean I could have cancelled with no cancellation fee - just 30 days notice. The rep told me about going onto a 'free sim' deal which costs £10 a month. He said going by my phone usage, I just as well as I'm hardly using my phone. I started to feel annoyed and asked him why Orange couldn't have offered this to me a year ago (as they can clearly see my usage) and save me £25 a month. I've been with Orange since they've been going. Where are their loyalties?!

Anyway, a good one to for the cold caller (if the opportunity arises) is this...

Caller: Hello, is that John Smith?
John: Yes.
Caller: How are you today sir?
John: I'm okay... Who is this?
Caller: Fantastic... My name's Robert Jenkins and he now waffles on.............. (then later says) do you mind if I call you John?

Now here's the great opportunity.

John: Well, to be honest, calling me by my first name doesn't quite sit right with me. We don't really know each other and we're not actual mates are we. But I don't mind you calling me by my nickname like my colleagues do. My nickname is dick head :D

Caller: ..............
Caller: ..............

John: Are you still there Bob?

   ;)

Only teasing Roger, I'm sure its hideous as are many of these big corporates. So busy you'd be lucky to find anything on them.
