• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have been away some time

Hi folks,

I am just starting to find my feet again after a struggle with health. So I am back at the bench, albeit on a stool. My tools are stil shiny though, thanks to a south facing, metal door that keeps the shop bone dry.

I just found a Record 71 Router plane too. Does anyone know if the 'Veritas' Router blades would fit this plane? I seem to have misplaced my existing blades; and I was looking forward to levelling some housings by hand router! If the blades fit, I'll buy the plane!

Cheers John
:D

Welcome back John.

You know what's going to happen don't you.
The moment you order replacements, you will find your others :)

Welcome back from me too.

I don't have one myself but I have read plenty of times online that the new Veritas blades do fit old Stanley or Record routers.

I've got both of those Jon, the Veritas blades are longer, but same thickness / profile.

The veritas only just fit the stanley.

This is a veritas blade bottomed out in the plane and you can see the adjuster is partly beyond the thread.

I believe the trick is to reverse the adjuster so the flange is at the bottom.

Cheers, Vann.

Think he’s already done that, or at least that would make it worse, perhaps a new longer length of threaded rod?

It's probably not too difficult to saw/file/grind another notch, a bit lower down.

Or else fit a wooden sole onto the router.

Many Thanks friends.
Yes it seems I shall be woodworking from a stool quite a lot. I just have to fix a beam to my benchtop, to lean against when planing. Like I have to do when washing up the dishes!. Aside from that it's pacing myself.
As for finding the missing cutters, my shop is in a right old state, so if they do rurn up later no probs. I'll just have spares!
I think the suggested modifications will be within my modest metal working skills. (I can haksaw and file true enough!) Thanks Andy.

Thanks again folks
