Seriously.

A couple of times now recently I've gone downstairs in the early morning and sat at the computer. I'll hear footsteps and the floorboards creaking above my head and think that LOML is up and about. Only (a) she isn't and (b) is at the other end of the house even if she was up and about and not in the room above me.

Although here in Mid-Devon we're halfway between the north and south coasts, the seagulls round here wear hobnail boots.

Could they be avian footsteps you're hearing?
