• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

it's christmas !!!

about time I posted something ...

It's been a while since I did any "proper" woodwork .. as customer demand followed the machines I have
CNC , then Laser too

It's pretty mind numbing after a few years ! lol .. but it pays the bills

but just a quick photo from today before it went out in the post.

A family Christmas tree
Laser cut in 3mm MDF

Blimey! That's good, but looks a little flimsy. What stops it falling apart?

they are delicate .. but just christmas dec's .. same as glass baubles !

Fine on a mantle and then put away for the year.

It's customer demand / trend ! .. I just do what people want to pay me for ! lol

I quite often turn down some orders though, and say "NO" !!! that will just fall apart !
but then someone else will make it for them :?

Am I the only one who cannot see an image on the OP

edit: dunno what happened earlier but fully visible now.

Clever stuff btw.

Looks great Rich, good to hear you're keeping busy :eusa-clap:

Is Ark the name of a child?

Thanks Doug
it's the font .. Arlo .. and I guess it's the name of the child ! haha
you get all sorts of strange names doing this stuff

I always say I will make it how they type it , do double check when they order

Christmas? It's not yet November. Take the bounder off to the flogging tree and don't spare the cat o' nine tails.

We don't "do" Christmas at our house .. but it's in the workshop it's all year round.
Busiest in the summer, for xmas stuff !
I'm the 1st link in the chain so to speak
Everyone needs to get this years designs done and advertised
the personalized orders come later
I need time to make them
My customer needs time to paint them
And post is rubbish at this time of year !
and strangely .. the end customer seems to want them well ahead of december ! ???

Our shopping malls are all decorated already.
(I bet Mrs G is counting down the days to Xmas, as all the building work will be completed.)

Neat idea.

Do they send you pics of it once painted?

Not usually Phil .. I basically sell to trade.
I send out 1000's of shapes a week.
Most have websites that I can look at .. but usually for new ideas ! lol

These buy a few hundred letters off me a week ..

its getting really competitive .. and I'm always looking for "the next thing" !

Nice what they do with your work.

For new ideas I suppose you have already tapped into the scrollsaw pattern stuff like Sue Mey.

yes .. Thanks, most are the same or similar .. I spend hours each week browsing
I have found it more of a fast changing fashion thing ... everyone is looking for the new thing .. then everyone copies it, then it starts again ! Usually the free patterns are done to death very quickly.
This throw away mind set also drives the prices down :-(

Years ago I could make the same things day in, day out .. and keep a stock of finished items on the shelf.

That looks dandy Rich 8-)

I might have an order for you to hang on our front door.

A large font will be my preference.

Something like this....

Be aware before you ring our door bell.
WE'RE A MISERABLE PAIR OF BASTARDS.
RING DOOR BELL AT YOUR OWN PERIL.

Ok, so let’s get all those creative juices flowing. (maybe wait till beer time?)

I am not creative at all (beanie can only draw straight lines) but I found this pic in a magazine the size is 20mm x 40mm which is very small to deal with.

It was re-sized a number of times to get what looked like a usable size.

It then became a scrollsaw pattern which turned the snail into 2 pieces cut at a slight angle so it only fitted together one way.

The same pattern was then used for the snail doorstops also off the scrollsaw.

I will post something else when SnailBucket eventually comes alive (their hoster was attacked the other day)

I have a theory about this and that is that the capability/annoyance/IT skills of a hacker is inversely proportional to the size of their genitalia.

I just clicked on the link and it worked. Using FireFox and w7Prof.

Maybe one of the other members can have a try?

Here is a neat idea.

Cut out of 2mm MDF and about 60mm wide.

There is some, looks like hessian, stuck on with a buton in the middle.

It was stuck onto an envelope which was an invite to a year end function.
