I mentioned a while back that I was going to convert some of my larch planks to make a simple Japanese bridge.
This is the one that has inspired LOML at Zuisen-ji Temple
The initial 'How to do an arch' thread is here.
The main bearers had been rough cut in situ with a chain saw, using a template, by Bill - the guy with the Alaskan mill and an excellent sculptor in wood - but I've lost the photos of that
. Next they needed to be trimmed on the bandsaw. But I needed help as these bearers are damn heavy ...estimated at 50+kg each (which incidentally means that that slab of 4" plank that smashed the back of my calf was closer to 120kg and not the paltry 70kg I'd thought).
Luckily two erstwhile forum members - Lons and Sam Q p- were visiting and they manhandled the bearers from the felling site up to the workshop and between the three of us, trimmed the bearers. Thanks chaps...I couldn't have done it without you
bscene-drinkingcheers:
Some finessing with the belt sander still to be done.
Warning....this is going to be another one of those long-drawn out projects...not least of which waiting for my builder to make the concrete pads for where the bridge will go.
