• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I want to make some window/door/Velux type things for my boat. I have no idea where to start beyond the lumps of brown hardwood (perhaps sapele) lying forlornly in my workshop. Is there anyone near Hemel Hempstead on here that I could pop in and have a chat with? I know what I want them to look like, I don't know how to make them leak free given the angles I have to deal with.

Will bring Yorkshire Tea and good quality biscuits!

I'm sort of kind of near'ish Hemel Hempstead... just down the M3, M25 and a few country lanes into Dorset.

It's the Yorkshire Tea and good quality biscuits thing! :D

Could you buy an old one of e-bay or a scrap yard and take it apart to see how it was made? Not sure about boats, but most windows are made on spindle moulders to minimise the number of pieces of timber involved and weather ingress. I am rebuilding some in my house at the moment and - if not quite 'making it up as I go along' - at least not following the original plans in terms of moulding down from 70mm x 70mm baulks of timber to match existing profiles but scarfing in new small sections wherever possible.

Stevie, if I had ever seen a window/door like what I needed, I would probably just buy them off the shelf tbh...i wanted to post pics to explain but my back has packed up and I'm not moving from my bed again tonight! The issue however, is with the frame design and managing water run off....I'm going to need drain holes...

Pinch, how far off the A303 are you? I'm heading to Cornwall soon :-)

I likes Cornwall. Is there a Cornish Tea? Would go down well with a Cornish Pasty! :D

I work for Axminster Tools & Machinery. I will not comment on any aspect whatsoever to do with my employment.

Apart from where said premises are :text-lol:

Wish we had an Axminster in Scotland :( HINT!
