• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Just another narrowboat

Nice to year from you again Charlotte. What is the story with the narrowboat? Is it a restoration that you have had a hand in?
 
Had a hand in? I bought Roe when Tom was doing things and posted the before pics on WH1. I've been working largely alone on her for 7 years whilst living aboard.

I had some help at the beginning from a plumber/boatbuilder with a lot of tools to build the cabin extension for the bathroom. He liked me and gave advice freely.

I ended up qualifying as a sparky and have since spent much of my time fixing other people's boats and working at a boatyard on new builds too. I've not done the welding on her and I had a little help with the fuel injectors but just about everything else save the wallpaper is my work and my mistakes! There has, of course been much good advice (and some terrible!) along the towpath with keeping the engine happy whilst I was cruising (5 years or so).

I thought I'd drop in to show you what I did though as some advice on here has been invaluable.
 
Sorry, I hope I did not sound condescending. I could not remember the history. You have certainly done a cracking job. What does Roe look like from the outside?
 
Very nice looking NB. How long is she? I have been looking at these recently actually (cheaper than a flat near work!) and your's is certainly more comfortable looking than many I have seen for sale. +1 for a pic of the outside.

Ha Stevie I bought her in Cambridge! Depending on where you are, mooring is very difficult there. The Middle Levels are more like middle earth....

Andy, I'm sorry if I came across pissy.

Roe is for sale because in the last year or so, a chronic illness has worsened to the point where I have had to stop work. I can no longer even lift a battery, let alone install 6 of them in some pokey engine room! As you can imagine, this has some effect on my identity that can result in me being a bitch from time to time, so forgive me!

Rod - I know, I should change the title....I'm incredibly proud of her -the snagging is ongoing though and I'm disappointed to having finally created what I envisaged that I no longer have the strength to enjoy her where she is at her best, out cruising rather than holed up in a marina.
 
Sounds awful and must be gut wrenching to spend so much time on effort on something like that and not be able to get full usage.
