Finished this Krenov style bookshelf for No.1 son in ghastly kiln dried ‘murrican Ash. His parter had her beady eye on the first one I made a while back (viewtopic.php?f=26&t=5440&p=85944&hilit=Krenov+bookshelf#p85944) so I said I’d make them a slightly larger one, but based on the same sort of format;

With some jobs, you’re in the zone and stuff goes swimmingly; with this one, I seemed to be permanently in the long grass and kept on making some pretty elementary, school boy errors :evil:
Anyhow, the gory details. Constructed from the last board of said hideous, kiln dried American Ash. I thought it had fully seasoned, but the bloody stuff was still moving fractionally which meant that joints were opening up after the glue had set :evil: which in turn affected the fit of the drawer; it do judder as it’s pulled out.

Pretty standard shovetails left slightly proud and then rounded over. Pins the same width but tails subtly alter size; tricky to work out the spacing. Centre shelf uses three wedged tenons, again left proud and rounded over. Tenons wedged with Bog Oak, end curve template bearing cut with the scalloped carving again done with carving gouges and left from the tool.

Drawer made from 7mm quarter sawn oak with oak bottoms, through dovetailed at the corners. Centre runner in Boxwood (not shown), applied Ash front, screwed in place with 8@16mm Torx screws. Drawer pull carved and sanded from Bog Oak and mortised into the front.

Back panel made from thin ply veneered both sides with 2mm off cuts of Ash and fitted into a rebate.
Hung onto the wall with a couple of French cleat thingies in Maple. Finished with the ar$e end of a tin of Osmo Raw which was full of bits and kept constantly skinning over, so I was forever de-nibbling and re-applying the gloop and I don’t intend to purchase any more of said gloop as there are, I fancy, better ways to finish Ash.
They’ll be lucky to get this as it came close to being force fed through the bandsaw more than once - Rob
