• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Having got fed up with my usual container for BP pills...

...I decided to make myself something more 'up market'. This is a little box made from an oddment of Brown Oak...

...with a sliding lid concocted from another oddment of Burr Elm. Some inserts included on the mitres for strength; finished with sanding sealer and a decent slathering of Alfie Shine. I rounded over all the edges 'cos just as I was finishing it I dropped the lid on a mitred corner and bent it :( so rather than stuff the whole thing through the bandsaw, which is my usual practice, I just took a block plane to the edges and corners - Rob

Erm.......sorry to be pedantic, but the decade ends in just over a years time. I trust you're going to do some woodwork between now and then!

Just a thought.....perhaps we should ditch the CGS system of measurement and instead use the much more practical Pole-Grain-Fortnight system of measurements ? Much more sensible. :lol:

Hmmmm, if you start time at year zero then the end of the first decade (completion of ten full years) is December 31st year 9 so surely that means that the end of 2019 is the end of that decade?

Happy to be educated otherwise...

But there never was a Year Zero. We went from 1 BC to 1AD. Having said that, consensus seems to suggest that either are correct

Getting back to the box...that’s a great piece of work. Re the lid, does it slide right out or have you put a stop on the underside?

Thanks; yep the lid slides right out. As I mentioned, I was fed up with having nowhere to put my blood pressure meds so I thought I do myself a little box, all made from oddments loafing around the 'shop. The Alfie Shine comes highly recommended btw - Rob

Six percent of Americans claim to have been abducted by aliens. Forty percent believe the world is less than 10,000 years old. I reckon we should leave this sort of stuff to the experts, the people who determine the calendar and such, don't you?

But that's just it, Mike. Many haven't given an opinion. For example, National Institute of Standards and Technology USA. It depends if you're a Team Zero or a Team 1 kind of guy.

At least we can agree that printing a diary with the May Bank Holiday as the 4th May was a bit precipitate seeing as how they've changed the one in 2020 to be Friday 8th !
