• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. Leaving batteries on a charger.

Is there any problem with leaving a fully charged battery on a charger? I regularly forget that I've got one charging, and take it off a day or two later. Is this doing any harm? (Ni Cd)
 
Any vaguely modern charger should detect when the battery's fully charged and stop feeding power into it. The early Ni-Cd chargers for AA/C/D cells that I remember from childhood didn't, and those you had to turn off when they were done.
 
It's warm, which is what always make me think "I shouldn't do this".........until the next time.
 
Whatever you do don’t unplug the charger and leave the batteries connected to it!
The electrons leak out of the exposed plug pins :o
 
I'm thinking of drill batteries etc, Pete, rather than AAs or AAAs.

I don’t think you should loose sleep if it’s a smart charger, if it’s just a wall wart with a plug then keep an eye on it.

Basically once a charger has used its energy to covert electricity to chemical energy, this charging the battery,
it either has to turn down the power in some way or the if continually charged, that excess energy input has to come out as heat.
Chargers with differing degrees of smartness will do this in a manner of ways and the cells should not be warming up to any significant degree.

The faster the charger, the greater the need for it to be smart to protect agianst overheating and shortening battery life.
