• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Can anyone help me with a source for offset hinges for a heavy door. Something like this :

Ideally lift off type.

Thanks

Having assisted one of my mates who lives in France to fit numerous doors and windows, those hinge seem to belong to a peculiarly French range of fittings that work will with their slim section windows & doors.

I've not seen them anywhere else. Screwfix have these http://www.screwfix.com/p/lift-off-hing ... of-2/43866 but nowhere near that narrow.

My rather old Brico Depot catalogue shows some shorter and possibly light versions described as paumelles acier laitonees which is way beyond my near non existent grasp of French.

Maybe using 2 pairs of these could give you the extra load capability.

Just opening the post with your chuck key in it - Genuine Jacobs key - still made in china!!

Thanks Bob, I'll take a look at Brico Depot. Paumelles acier laitonees is "hinge" (but specifically this lift off design) in steel, brass coated/plated. In the UK we are cursed by catch all words like hinge covering a hundred different configurations, here hinge translates to charnière, paumelle, fiche, gond... plus others depending on the type.

This is the sort of thing that Brico depot seem to have closest to your style

Much shorter though

Leroy Merlin have a bit longer option here http://www.leroymerlin.fr/v3/p/produits ... &numpage=1
Stainless steel and at a price! but possibly much better quality than BD.
I note they have two photos, one with 3 holes per leaf and the other with 4??

Bricomarche don't seem to show anything on their website

Interestingly I see that Brico Depot and Castorama are part of the same group now and allied to our B&Q/ Screwfix outlets too. Seems to be a popular idea to have common ownership of a 'posh' outlet and a more DIY/trade type place selling many common items but at different prices.
In UK we have a triple combination in Travis Perkins (builder merchant), Wickes Supermarket type DIY and Toolstation - trade counter concept and rock bottom pricing.

How heavy is heavy David. Are you concerned that the normal lift off hinges here will not be strong enough? You might have to fit 4 to take the weight?

Rob, yes BD, Casto, may well all be part of the kingfisher group but neither of them compete with Screwfix on price nor selection.

Erm its Bob!
Absolutely. I'm regularly horrified at the prices of DIY stuff in France especially now post Euro/Franc changover.
Some of the Promo stuff is good and I still buy some chemicals & solvents in France mainly as they are unavailable/hard to get in UK.

Toolstation (part of the Travis Perkins group and set up by the founder of Screwfix!) usually knock spots off Screwfix prices but a smaller range. £10 min order for free postage for us in UK too.
