• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Moved over to here from we know where.

Loghead here. Have been here for some considerable time, but my Lady's illness about eight years ago caused a major blip in my MoJo. Not quite happy in the other place, so maybe it's time I concentrated on Woodhaven, and my other 'family'. Still appearing there, but growing weary. Maybe time to set up my new bench over here?

I think you'll know who I was if I tell you I am from West Muddylands near Junction 7, M6

My new bench? (Clue - Has strange wayze!) I had a brainwave, and realised I could make a good, basic bench for less than £300.00. Nothing fancy; just an 80mm thick top and a Douglas Fir under-frame, with a humongous Paramo QR vice. So I am gonna get stuck in! At 82 years, wish me luck folks.

John :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingbuddies: Happy New Whatsit! to one and all.

Hi benchwayze. Sorry, John.
We dont talk about the other place. Make youself at home and dont mind the dog, hes a bit wiffy but he doesnt bite.

Nice and friendly here John, you know it makes sense.
It will be interesting to see how that cut in half top idea for your bench pans out, pics please.

Welcome John. The reference to ‘ West Muddylands ’ helped identify you (- before I read the next paragraph!). :)

Ah, John, I'd hoped you would join us. Good to have you here in a gentler corner of the internet.

Hi John.
Whilst I've been a member here for some time, I mainly visited the "dark site" until very recently but the increased bitching and moaning since the takeover have taken most of the pleasure out of what was meant to be a woodworking site..
Its good to see so many recognised names are now posting here so this is now my first port of call.
I'm still up the road if you need anything, just give me a shout.

Glynne

And another cheery wave from me John. Good to see you on the mend and getting woodworking again.

Hi Glynne...and a warm welcome.

Hi Folks.

:D
Thanks for all the good wishes and the welcome. Yes I am getting back into the swing, and I'm starting with a new work bench. It has to be smaller though. 22" deep by 60" long. The top is a pair of beech worktops, (Worktop Express) sandwiched together, Cos I can't handle the 4 x 2s to glue up a top. I'm using Douglas Fir for the 'undercarriage', and most probably will include a sliding dead-man to work with the vice. I'm undecided though on dog-holes, as most of my life I've been using benches without them. Time for a change maybe!!! Will keep you posted.

PS I'll get around to you all directly...
Thanks again.

J

Hello John. I always thought benchwayze was a good internet name!

Hello John it's good to see you're still at it and my contributions to the pension fund are not in vain. I stop paying in later this year and start taking out myself. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Hi John,

Good to see you again. Did you ever make the Hay Rake table?

Hi Dave:

Well I did make the hay-rake bit in pine yes, (Not to size; just to work out how to do it!) but I went hay-raking and left it in a field!

Actually it wasn't as difficult as I thought it might be, but since things got all awry here I disposed of a lot of timber and the Hay-rake went with it! Unfortunately my wife's illness stopped me completing a lot of projects I wanted to get on with. Then when she had to go into care I lacked a bit of MoJo!

I still have the PDF so I might get on with it when I have the bench up and running.

Thanks Dave and a belated Happy New Year! :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Good to see you over here John, I hope you're doing well! :)

Thanks Trev. I can't complain. Missing wifey, and will be glad when this lockdown clears, so I can see her. But all in all, I am still working, albeit slowly!

Cheers

John Alfredo! :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Thanks muchly Dave. What place? :D
There's something comforting about a whiffy dog. You always have him to blame when you have to let go!

Cheers

Nothing wrong with good manners John. ;)
Manners Maketh The Man.
I love this clip. It says a lot about people without talking too loudly or taking itself too seriously.

Tbf Mark, Firth is pretty bloomin' great in everything no? I rate him as nearly as partly as good as Brendan Gleeson who is clearly the Joint Greatest Actor of Our Times along with Gary Oldman.

Yeah fair point, very good actor.

I watched The King’s Speech over Christmas having never seen it before and he was brilliant in that.

Gary Oldman I like a lot too. Like him a lot in Fifth Element and absolutely love him in Leon, one of my top five movies.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say excellent, but he can certainly hold a tune and is far and away one of the better voices in that abomination!

Wife and daughter love that film, it just looks and sounds to me like they were all p!ssed when they made it! :D

I have always given the directors the benefit of the doubt and thought it looks and sounds exactly as intended. A kind of Mickey take, pastiche. I also reckon they had immense fun filming it.

Much loved too here BTW.

Oh absolutely Andy, I agree, it looks and sounds exactly as planned, it's just that it sounds awful!

Seriously though, it's obviously a bit of fun and intended to look like middle aged duffers singing and having a laugh, so it achieves that. Not my bad though. The Mandalorian on the other hand, I've just started watching it again from the start I enjoyed it so much!
