• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

My barn & conversion to workshop.

I've mentioned before my barn and it's subsequent conversion or half of it to a workshop. Note 99% of the work NOT done by me :oops:
Just so you all now how grand it isn't I'd thought I'd share a few picks.

this is how it was when we moved in.

You can't see the slope on the floor but it was about 3 inches going down from the opening. Situated on the downslope of the garden and facing west we soon discovered that we needed to plug that hole.

We also added a drain to take the rainwater away from the barn and into a ditch away to the right.

This existing power to the barn was taken off from this box under the lawn which was in turn fed from a outside lamp in the middle of the garden. The cable was so close to the surface I was able pull it up by hand all, 15m of it.

I did do all the surface mounted electrics and paint the walls.

That looks a fantastic workshop, and with tons of storage.
 
Very nice. How I would love a workshop that was just a workshop and not a place for bikes and lawnmowers and ..........

Looking at how neat it was back then is making me think it is about time I had a major clean up and reorganisation. The lathe now sits on top of the router table which is in the middle of the floor with barely enough room to walk around it. And I no longer have any free wall space.

The storage are on top is great for seasoning wood but that too is getting a bit cluttered.

Dreams are for those who sleep. :) Are you sure you can't build/buy (second hand even) a shed for all the non workshop stuff?
 
LOML loves her garden and when I have suggested that I could build even a bike shed (which would free up a whole wall from 4 bikes) I have been give the non-negotiable hard stare!

The trouble is that LOML is very crafty and loves pottery, stone letter carving, printing, stained glass etc. If I'm not careful what space I do have will be taken over by her things! Once the kids have grown up we will almost definitely move to a smaller house with a larger garden. And 2 workshops!

Until then I will not wish my life away and try to make do!
