• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Saw this today it’s a sortve hand turned side drill but what’s it for any ideas?

I'd guess that it hooks over railway track to drill horizontal holes where fishplates can be bolted on to join lengths of rail together.
 
I think Andy’s right there’s a few examples on the tinterweb mainly from India, don’t think I’d fancy hand cranking one of those in 40+ degree heat :eusa-snooty:

Where is this machine? How much was being asked for it? Did the seller know what it was? Have you bought it yet :D ?

Haha sorry just got to this and it’s at an antiques store do you want it? I can’t remember the price but wasn’t a huge amount. And it’s also for work on the railways drilling holes for patching it I remember I did end up asking someone and found out finally lol

No, I don't plan on taking up railway maintenance as a hobby. I was just wondering what sort of shop would have one on offer and whether the shopkeeper knew what it was. Is it in England somewhere?

It’s in England not far from me and yes it’s a sortve general antique store all sorts of odds and ends
And are you one of the die hard tool collectors I didn’t realise the extent some have gotten to I thought I was bad lol my friends terrible has two barns full but not married so can do what he likes
