• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Router - wifi -> Netgear wi-fi extender ->ethernet cable from this into Humax PVR. OK

New router - wifi -> Netgear wi-fi extender -> ethernet cable from this to Humax PVR (last night). OK

This morning - nada.

So try :

1) power cycle Netgear wi-fi extender and Humax - nada

2) Bring laptop into the same room as the Netgear wi-fi extender and the Humax. Try connecting laptop via wi-fi to Netgear extender wi-fi - OK

which means that the Netgear wi-fi extender is (a) connected to the new router and (b) can transmit wi-fi

3) Try the same ethernet cable (I used to plug into the Humax) from the Netgear wi-fi extender into the laptop. Ensure wi-fi is switched off on laptop. Laptop OK...can access the internet via ethernet.

which means that the ethernet port on the Netgear wi-fi extender is working fine and DHCP does its stuff OK.

4) Plug the ethernet cable back into the Humax - nada.

5) Get another ethernet cable and run it from my network switch directly into the Humax - all OK

which kind of rules out the Humax, ethernet socket and its DHCP stuff surely ?

So WTF ?

Stumped. I hate bloody wi-fi and am kicking myself that I didn't flood wire the house.
 
I think you have the same Asus router I do.

Just occasionally something seems to spook it and weird things happen. perhaps twice a year sort of frequency. Fix is simple - power off 10 seconds and back on again. It does take its time to fully reboot though so give it 5 minutes.

The other gotcha with it is if you pick it up and move it... it is very easy to press the wifi off button on the front and think you have a fault because you lost wifi!

I'm only suspecting the router because it appears not to be giving an IP to your humax. If you have the Asus app on your phone have a look at the client list or use the laptop to log in to the router to see what is listed.

I have an elderly Humax box and every now and again it does not connect to the WiFi. It usually connects next time it is turned on. While I use WiFi I prefer hard wired connections but unfortunately we moved the TV to a corner where I had not put a network cable :( and also where there is not an aerial connection either so the aerial is running around the wall on the floor.
 
We had a problem where different devices dropped off wifi intermittently. Eventually we were told that the hub supplied by Virgin media could only support 20 devices. There are four of us who all have multiple devices. Two TiVo boxes anyway once device 21 was added one of the others would be disconnected.
An individual router resolved the problem.
Is your new router a net gear like your extender net gear provide 90 days tech support with some of their routers.
If your router has dual frequencies 2.4 and 5 ghz 2.4 is better for distance 5 is faster but does not have much range. If you access the routers web page you should be able to see where the box is connecting.

Some cordless phones can interfere with the routers signal.

Sometimes my wifes laptop is hibernated over night and when it wakes up it tries to connect to the same ip address it had previously but the router has given the ip address to another device. You could try assigning a fixed ip address to the humax box

LOL....I tried that support line ....must have got a new joiner.

Ok my last idea
we have had a couple of issues with our new night hawk router sounds like a batman villain to me :)
Ours has three channels 1 x 2.4 ghz and 2 x 5 ghz there is a setting that combines all three which caused no end of troubles until I turned it off.

Have you tried using a powerline adapter for the Humax ?

Got it in one ! I gave up trying to arrange a static IP with a Netgear wifi extender. Virtual IP addresses seem to abound. I had found a website that took you through the labyrinthine way it works and thought that I'd bookmarked it, damned if I can find it now..so...

used a couple of powerline adapters.

Sorted.
