• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I am in the market for a new bandsaw. The two I am considering are the Record Sabre 350 or the Laguna 14 12.
Both can be had for identical price. The Laguna has a touch more resaw capacity (not a huge deal for me) and ceramic guides and I think a little more power.
The record has a fine adjustment on the fence and a resaw bar included and the fence clamp looks better in general in the pictures. Also the Record sits on a cabinet rather than a stand.
Perhaps customer service/parts could be a factor and I would imagine that the Record would win on this. Both receive equally shiny reviews.
Thoughts?

Happy with my Laguna. Bought it so I could resaw for instrument backs and sides. OK so far. Tricky to adjust lower guides under the table. I like the quick release blade tension lever. I didn't like the 3 wheel mobility kit. I found it unstable as I have to move it, not far, every time I use it, then back again. It felt like it would topple, like Clarkson driving a Reliant! :) In fact it did start to. So I bought a four wheel kit. Bloomin' heavy, obvs, to get on the new 4 wheel base, but so much more stable. Tuffsaw blades do my resawing, general purpose and small radii. I fitted a cheap flexible light.

P.s. That three wheel kit is FTAGH.

Have you looked at the Hammer N2-38? It’s a little more than the other machines (if you ring up Felder sometimes you can haggle, or get some optional extras for free if you suggest you will buy another machine instead) but I think I would strongly consider it myself if I was looking for a new saw.

I have a Laguna 14BX and happy with it . Agree on the Laguna self toppling wheel kit - awful - and also do not buy the mitre gauge that sometimes comes as an option - it is flimsy and doesn't really fit the slot whatever you do - buy an Incra mitre gauge of some sort - they are solid and more adjustable.

Ok thanks very much that's good because...
I did order the 14/12 fom Yandles but have now changed the order to the BX which should be arriving next week. I changed because of the BX having more power, the brake and supposedly stiffer frame and it takes up no more space (slightly less in fact). Ill be making my own wheel thing.

I have a Record Power BS350S that I have modified over the years to approximate the Sabre 350.

The mobility kit for the BS350S was an utter disappointment, so I built a custom wheeled base that incorporates storage for blades, jigs, and accessories. Each of the four wheels is double locking, but in normal use, I only lock two.

If the BS350S dies, I will likely replace it with the Laguna 14BX. I would prefer the 18BX, but it won't fit in my shop with low ceilings and obstructions. I can buy the saw directly from IGM Tools in the Czech Republic with free shipping.

Wouldn't be hitching a ride on one of these by any chance ? ;)
