• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

New Forum bugs/feature requests/dislikes etc

Still cannot see your photos..in the 'mix' thread, but see your plane blade, in the 'last thing made' thread.
fine looking blade,too
It would be helpful if you told us what browser you are using. And version. Any extensions or add-ons etc. Mac or PC etc.

I've just hit a new little snag. I was trying to post an update to my little oilstone box project here

I'd drafted my thread, clicked on the Preview button and got an error message telling me "The submitted message is too long to be processed. Please shorten it." I split it into two parts.

Is it really too long? Copying and pasting it all into Word says it's 542 words, or 2917 characters including spaces. There were 14 pictures, mostly about 3Mb before uploading.

Shouldn’t have been an issue - will have a look

I can explain the difference between those two: the "mix" thread references photos from my website, whereas I uploaded the photo directly to the last thing made thread. That doesn't help explain why you can't see the photos in the mixed media thread.

We might have to wait for @akirk to get back and see if he has any ideas. What operating system and web browser are you using? Do you have any plugins installed on the web browser?
Windows 10, and Firefox

I will have a look at that but there will be some technical balances around character length of posts and efficiency of data storage and access so that will be the priority… I am away for 10 days so for now I would just finish one post and start a second - there is a drafts forum to help build long threads if needed!

Did you get around to looking at the issue, Alasdair?

the nearest understanding I can see is that sometime dragging / dropping images into the browser puts them in as 'text' not image (apparently more likely with firefox) and if this happens you hit maximum lengths on the post... If so, the solution is to remove images / create post / re-add them through the normal image process, but if still getting issues, select image from the file dialogue box, not through dragging and dropping...

I think the issue with the post is the hyperlinks as there’s no photos on that particular post?

Ahhh - just realised - you are presumably referring to this one? :)
again - not sure how, but it must have seen the character count as above 10,000 and the only way it will do that is through hidden characters - URLs can do it, and images if not loaded correctly can also cause issues...

best option is to toggle the code button --> [] <-- and see what is taking up the space

It's in this thread, which before the change of software I would edit the post and hyperlink titles to the relevant posts in the thread so it would be an easy reference. When I check the code and count all the characters there are over 10,900, which is presumably mostly hyperlinks. I suppose I could just remove all the hyperlinks (they all would need updating anyway as all the links don't work anymore after the update) but it's a bit of a shame.

That sounds like the 10,000 character limit is something that phpBB didn't enforce but the new software does, so that the post got migrated across without a problem but then can't be edited without reducing it to fit under the new limit.

Apparently that limit is configurable in the admin panel - while there aren't many posts that would need to be longer than 10,000 characters, I think that thread is a good example of where it would be beneficial.

fair point - limit now 20000 (don't use it all at once :D)

Do you get an alert for this reply Pete?
I did see a alert but I refreshed the page before I clicked on and didn't stay on so I clicked the alerts bell and it showed no alerts, its the same on my phone.

It seems like they have been deleted.

Pete
