• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Are there any plans / desire to move to new forum software? phpBB really is long in the tooth now - doesn't work well on mobile, doesn't support images properly, lacks latest emoticon support, lacks reactions to posts etc. - I could go on.

I really like Discourse which is free to download / host & also has migration options from phpBB - I'd be very happy to help out migrating it!

The worst thing about this place is definitely the software itself. Having some more modern software might help actually grow the community as well as we definitely need some more woodworking content here!
 
Surely changing would take the fun out of the photo orientation lottery :eusa-think: :lol: :lol:
 
We’ve been looking at Xenforo as the replacement software but i hadn’t heard of Discourse.

I’ll take a look at it this weekend and see what it looks like. I have every intention of giving this some focus now so while it won’t be in the next week, hopefully it’s on the near horizon rather than the far…
 
Open source Mark. Very US centric design. Members can be by invitation only, and that aspect is easy to administer, so useful for private forums. Piano / chamber music group I belong to uses it. Seems to work fine, but we have no public membership. I don't admin that that so no idea how easy to install, though they claim easy migration from php, but not sure if version dependent. Ours had no migration as it started from scratch as a breakaway from a bigger forum.

We can drag and drop video and sound files (which is what we mainly use - not many images). Not sure how the admin organises hosting but can ask if it helps.
 
Discourse seems very well thought out (and I like that it's open source for self-hosted stuff).
