• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hi guy's I brand new to this forum and in fact new to woodworking, I'm now 64 and eagerly awaiting retirement at 66 (thanks to our government) I've always been very good with my hands, properly comes from my profession (sparks) but It's long been an ambition of mine that when I retire I will spend a large amount of time teaching myself woodturning and small woodworking projects. So during the last 12 months or so I've been buying machinery I now have a record lathe, Wadkin planer, record chisel mortiser, 12" saw bench, biscuit jointer, 2 routers (1 bench mounted, belt sander, orbital sander plus a number of other hand tools. I will acquire tools as required. I am now planning the construction of a workshop and intend to install dust/chip extraction. So a very exciting times for me. retirement only just over 12 months away.

+1 Retirement is the best job I've had!
I started early at 55 after a career in electronic research to look after SWMBO who has less than good health. Just squeaked in by 1 month to be able draw state pension at 65 before the rules changed.
Retirement gives me plenty of time in the workshop as well as time for the domestic duties and paydays too. What's not to like!

Nice collection of machinery you have and the skills to look after it.

Welcome to the forum Waggie. As you have a lathe may I suggest you think about joining a wood turning club? I’ve found it very helpful meeting like minded people once a month. The wood sales are also much appreciated.

Can someone define retirement? I stopped "working" at 45 but witout drawing a pension, does that count as retired?
