Hi All,
As many will know, Nick was involved in a pretty horrific accident a few weeks ago and was in an induced coma for around ten days.
He was moved from Southmead hospital in Bristol to Frenchay on the outskirts of Bristol where they still retain a specialised brain injury rehab unit so I popped along to see him this afternoon.
To say I was amazed at how he has recovered is an understatement! He seemed no different from the time I worked alongside him when he edited Good Woodworking and equally as quick witted and chipper as before.
He is still very keen to escape the confines of hospital but now he has been told the extent of what happened he's realised that he has to recouperate fully before he's fit enough to leave, which he reckons may be in the next couple of weeks.
While I was there it was brilliant to see that despite his close call, his passion for woodwork and the woods themselves still remains.
He was about to go off to the woodland around the hospital when I arrived to get a hazel sapling that he'd spotted on a previous walk that would have struggled to survive where it was and he wanted to replant in the hopital grounds, so off we both set with a spade and a bucket to bring it back!
How he found it i'll never know - I struggle to find my way around streets with a map, but Nick went off through little winding woodland paths, and sure enough, found it, and dug it up - I even took a pic with his camera of him doing it so that he can use it in a forthcoming issue of Living Woods!
It's great to see him so well after what could have been so different an outcome - Keep up the good work Nick!
cheers,
Andy
