• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Odies Oil

Edit: Mike G, I can guess your response :ROFLMAO:
Well, good luck with that, because I don't! Other than...................how much?!!

I leave others to try it and report back. Not just when they've used it on a piece of furniture, but when they've stood a hot cup of tea on it by accident. Non-yellowing........so there are no oils or oil-based solvents involved.

Contains oils ...extract of MSDS :Mixture of: Lubricating oil; Drying oil; Natural waxes; Essential oil"
MSDS ( full current formula, last changed in 2018 )
https://odiesoil.com/content/NewOdiesOilSDSJune2018-.pdf

Essential oil is a bit too vague, ( as vague as contains "wood" ), some "essential oils" can be toxic , and or provoke severe allergic reactions.
No problems for some people, EPIPEN for others, or eczema type reactions.

So after the not unexpected and startling response (or lack of) from the populace :ROFLMAO: I've taken the plunge and ordered the taster sample pot of Odie's Oil. I may even, if I'm so minded, share my test results. Or maybe not😁 - Rob
Go on Rob. You, and other trusted contributors on here, are my only link to those online influencers and their exotic tastes in wood finishes! Do please tell us what you find out.

I admire your enthusiasm to try something new. At the risk of sounding a lot older than my age I’ll stick with what has worked for me for years.

As it is unspecific about which "lubricating oil, and which essential oils" it contains, you'll forgive me if I don"t take the word or the manufacturer as to how safe it is for skin contact or inhaling. Their MSDS is what they claim, not the result of an independent lab analysis*. Drying oil can also mean many things, usually means "siccatif", something to accelerate polymerisation. All the terms used in their MSDS are generic, MSDS used to be a great deal more precise.Theirs reads to me as deliberately vague so as to prevent anyone ( maybe competitors ) from knowing what is actually in it. Given how many things can cause problems on skin contact, ( again many "essential oils" and dryers ) I'd advise wearing disposable gloves and eye protection , only use in well ventilated area etc..and don't swig it , even if you are not a vegan. :)

* If it were, they'd name the independent lab.

Products from the land which gave us doctors who said smoking cigarettes was good for you are not IMO to be relied upon to be telling the truth about how safe their products are.

So, they still have not said what is in it..they are saying trust them..
as Mandy Rice-Davis said.."They would say that , wouldn't they".
As someone whose first degree was in Organic Chemistry, albeit many years ago ( the others were in totally non related subjects ) I'll take my skepticism over the assurances of Eddie the salesman..
..or with respects, over the reassurances of Rob the Woodworker,
or anyone else, not holding at least a PhD in the field.
YMMV
I'd accept an actual breakdown of the precise chemical constituents...and less sarc.

This will probably not satisfy the Ludditish nae sayers, who would prefer, I suspect, chapter n'verse, written in blood with a quill pen on multiple tablets of stone. That said, it's good enough for me - Rob

I'm posting for the benefit and safety of readers here*, not for my benefit...arguing with "instant experts" got boring fast in the other place, seems we still have some posting here.

* IIRC at least a couple of posters in this forum have quite severe allergies, and I think one or two may be like myself and have severe COPD, thus they, and others should take precautions with any and all "mystery chemical products"..or even organic ones like some woods and essential oils.

Right, I'm not getting into this b0llocks.

@Woodbloke , stop being a smartarse with your replies, the initial comment wasn't unreasonable as someone who has dealt with getting licensing for making soap as a little business for my daughter. Some essential oils can indeed be toxic and the MSDS 'should' name them for those with skin complaints. The manufacturers response is NOT good enough from a legal standpoint.

That being said...

@mwinfrance That response is absolutely f'kin uncalled for and will not be accepted on this forum. Any further instances of that and you'll be sat out for a bit.

Put your toys back in your prams children and behave yourselves, now!

As sent to you via pm proir to you posting Trim..
I'm gone, for good ..by my choice..I don't need this crap from people who would not dare to say it to my face.

Better things to do with my time than wonder when the next ignorant troll is going crawl out from under their bridge.

And I only looked up this post to see what the consensus was on Odies Oil given it’s eye watering cost…!

Mark, I have tried to give you a 'thumbs up' in grateful thanks for showing up in Moderator mode and impartially enacting judgement, but some software somewhere is blocking out that intention. So, hereby, a small public token of appreciation.
Sam
