• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. This is not really machine related but I thought people might like.
I had the good fortune of visiting a forge to buy some machines. The place had been in the same family for 5 generations. I drove down to put the machine on a pallet and bring one back with me.

I picked up a really nice sagar disc sander which has a bobbin on the back of the motor.
 
I got the saw home and had a good look around it. Some one has removed the double spindle mechanism and replaced it with pillow block bearings and a crappy spindle for the metal cutting bladeMad :mad: This would of been a really cool saw.
I reckon I can still make it into a useable saw.

A real shame to see that it's been gutted out to make it work for something else, It would've been a museum quality piece otherwise with it being such an early model. God knows what the metal cutting sparks have done to the slider ways over the years. Nice to see there's still little family run outfits like that still around though, doing what they've done for generations.

What's the purpose of the tilting top if the blade tilts with it? :? Unless that's a result of the bodging by the people who have fitted the pillow blocks and it's not supposed to be like that. What's a double spindle mechanism out of curiosity?
 
The tilting top was the precursor to the tilting blade just a lot more dangerous. The double spindle meant you had a rip blade and a cross cut blade which you could rotate when needed.

That double spindle mechanism is ingenious, shame they don’t do the same on modern saws anymore as it’s a pain to change blades.
