I don't know Ian, I'm always deaf in one ear, which depends on which side of me she'a facing whilst talking I do listen actually just don't take any notice unless it's important. It must work as we're into our 55th year. Either that or she's the one in a million when it comes to being tolerant, which of course she is. I wouldn't live with me.

Plenty of poundstretcher type stores withing reach Frank and we even have a couple of Boyes stores now ventured noth from Yorkshire. What we don't have now are any dedicated tool stores since Axi departed.

Not heard of Boyes down this way... Used to have an Axi store over Radstock way a few years back but now no more. Nearest for power tools and such (of some quality? ) would be Toolstation and Screwfix... Woodworkers type 'store/shop' with tools and such would be Yandles at Martock - 1~1½ hours away maybe...

I've got the chance of two sets of record clamp heads for just over £42 posted and they look almost new. I was intending to wait until the Harrogate show where I might be able to pick some up but I doubt I'd get them for £21 a set unless they were Silverline a similar so might just go for them.

Sounds good. I should take a trip to Proper Job and take a couple of photos of their sash clamps, with bar - aluminium bars I'm sure - and price up... up to 6ft I think... Only in use would I be able to say if they'd be suitable "under pressure"

I'm supposed to be getting rid of stuff rather than aquire more, at least that what my wife thinks. but hey I've just saved several hundred pounds fixing a table have I not.

the other table is fine Frank it's just one of the bench types, was cheap softword and I salvaged it from my son when he moved house 12 years ago.
It's like "Triggers broom" as it's had bits replaced multiple times. The top and bench seats are now 30mm thick plastic decking type material which won't rot but my missus complaing it's hot in the sun. That's what cushions are for.

It's the umbrolly that needs fixing.

Final pics as it's getting boring now.

I decided to treat the table after a kindly bird left a free deposit on the top. So out with the teak oil and here it is after one coat. I'll give it several over time as it didn't half soak it in. A bit red for my liking but that will fade and hey ho it's just an outside table that will get marked and bashed by my clumsy family.
We're happy enough.

I don't know Scott. I rubbed off any excess and don't even know how many it will need, I'll have to buy some more oil anyway. I treated the drive gates as well today which is time consuming and uncomfortable when you have dodgy knees so was happy to finish.

Looking at the finished top I’m wondering if there’s two different timbers there?
The lighter planks deffo look like Iroko
The reddish ones look more like one from the Sapele family but I could definitely be wrong.
I’ve made quite a few windows and doors and worktops from Iroko and don’t ever remember seeing those colour verifications.
Iroko also looks good tinted in walnut

If you're right I fully intend to claim Pete's house which he bet on it all being iroko (just joking |Pete).
All the wood has a waxy feel so I'd think it's all iroko

Good idea, I could easily make one up using an old bucket as a mould. I suppose I could also 3d print or turn a matching plug for the hole.

Are you deliberately trying to make work for me?

Careful with the bucket for a mould. A large flat base with wheels far apart will be much more stable

We've got BIG buckets in this part of the world. I was thinking of one of my flexi bucket thingies that are about 18" across the base. The concrete would release easily and the bucket live to fight another day.
