Thanks Rob, the existing black mount didn't have enough material to do this. So maybe I could make a new one or just leave the original matting alone?

I thought that might be the case; leave the mount 'as is' then. The other thing to consider if you try to take it apart is that the existing mount could be very firmly attached to the photo and if a separation is attempted, the photo may be damaged which would be a disaster and mean you loose all your hard earned brownie pointsThanks Rob, the existing black mount didn't have enough material to do this. We have rescued 10 dogs over the years and when I read it often brings tears to my eyes.Nice pictures and nice frames. Lovely poem too.
I’ve not made many frames but when I did I fitted the splines on the surface rather than the edge as I didn’t like the idea of holding the frame upright over the TS.
Looks good, never thought of a biscuit joiner.Here is my spline cutter, it’s a fence made from 3mm mdf that holds my biscuit cutter in place it makes nice slots and the height adjustable.
The fence is screwed to the biscuit joiner.
