Thanks Rob, the existing black mount didn't have enough material to do this. So maybe I could make a new one or just leave the original matting alone?

Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. Nice pictures and nice frames. Lovely poem too.
I’ve not made many frames but when I did I fitted the splines on the surface rather than the edge as I didn’t like the idea of holding the frame upright over the TS.

I thought that might be the case; leave the mount 'as is' then. The other thing to consider if you try to take it apart is that the existing mount could be very firmly attached to the photo and if a separation is attempted, the photo may be damaged which would be a disaster and mean you loose all your hard earned brownie points

Here is my spline cutter, it’s a fence made from 3mm mdf that holds my biscuit cutter in place it makes nice slots and the height adjustable.
The fence is screwed to the biscuit joiner.

When I've done exposed corner splines I've used the table saw. Usually I put a biscuit in the corner since they don't show unless it is a small frame in which case I use a Ryobi mini biscuit. Ryobi brought them out with a special biscuit machine several decades ago. They never caught on but I love using mine for small frames and the corners of small boxes. I'll attach a picture of the large mini biscuit (they had two smaller sizes) along side a Lamello 20 for comparison.
