• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Anybody looked at this or subscribed?

https://www.pinterest.com

Initially I thought “what a great idea” to find different ideas for projects, so flag anything that looks like wood.

The first few e-mails gave some good links.

BUT – is now looking like spamming –
Your daily dose of Pinterest links
The same e-mail as 2 days ago
When I go and look at some of the stuff – you need to log in or create an account
It is nearly as bad as F-Book and LinkedIn.

(and, no, not grumpy) :(

I could never see the point of LinkedIn.

All social media sites should be banned. They cause so much grief, especially for vulnerable youngster.

I really like Pinterest there are some excellent ideas to be found on there, I have the free app & tend to look when there is something specific I'm looking to make like this free standing wood store.

It was based on an idea I found on Pinterest which was completely different to how I had considered making a store, it works really well so was pleased to have found it.
Re the emails, I find most companies etc that I register with will regularly send emails, if they bother me I mark them as spam, but on the whole I don't mind them as it from a source that I'm interested in.
I don't think of Pinterest as social media, I don't interact with anyone on there as I do with Facebook or Instagram, but with all these things it's how you choose to use them.

Nice storage Doug.

I also enjoy looking for ideas, but not to be bombarded by e-mails.

Unfortunately I used my personal e-mail address and not the other one I use for business purposes.

I am a sucker for punishment.

Look at my e-mail just now, and there is one from Pinterest.

Shows nice looking pics with timber. So open up and see.
Click to link to see more.
Firefox loads a screen full of colourful pictures with wood, projects etc.
Just as you start looking to see what requires more attention, along pops small screen in middle.

“See what your friends are pinning” with a nice RED button.

Now you are completely stuffed. Either close the window or click the RED button – will not allow you to do anything else.

Sucker clicks the RED button and the next screen tells you to log in!

You keep on getting forced into a position of logging in.
All I want to do is see if there is anything interesting and then maybe log in to explore further.

Sucker signing off.

Hmmmm, I don't seem to have the same issues you're seeing Phil. Perhaps it's the way you're using it somehow as I don't get the same hassle you do…

I'm not sure what you concern is with signing up or logging in anyway, you don't HAVE to do anything, just log in and us it as normal, unless I'm misunderstanding your complaint...

Cheers

PS Just thinking again, are you browsing the website or using the app? I get 1 or two emails per day max, which I can deal with, and using the app I don't see any popups like you're complaining of, so maybe that's a better option…

And I'm sure there will be a way to get rid of that popup without clicking the red button, it will just be a small cross somewhere around the edge of it but they can often be hard to see, intentionally.

Mark, I do not see the necessity of logging in unless I specifically want to read/research or comment.
On TW2 I read a lot without logging in.

Mark, I use Firefox on my laptop. Apps are for the fancy phones (Sony Xperia Z5) which belongs to the company I do contract work for. So the phone it is purely business related.
If that red button had a small cross, it was so small that it did not show up. First thing I look for is the cross.

Unfortunately I cleared out my deleted mails so could not go back and recreate the screen.
