• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I saw the lovely Candle Box that @Blackswanwood made and thought I'd have a go at something similar. I had a silly moment and cut the end off one of the sides where the lid slides in, so I made the other one match. I think it would look better with continuous sides but I can't do anything about that now. The lid is also a bit looser than I'd like; I still haven't quite mastered the #45! All done with hand tools apart from resawing the Alder plank in two; I started it yesterday afternoon and finished this morning. Made out of a lump of Alder I couldn't resist when I went to Wentwood.

It's had one coat of Mike's Magic Mix so far.

I like that a lot. Just my sort of thing. And if you think it's not quite perfect, you've got an excuse to make another one. (Anyone else will just admire it.)

I once bought a nice lump of alder from Mac Timbers, as it's a common tree but a hard to find timber. After "maturing" it for quite a while, I resawed it into thinner boards and made a bread bin, which is really just a box turned round so the lid's on the front. I found it very pleasant to work with.

But I should have looked harder and found a bit as pretty as yours!
 
There is an answer. Put a small strip of wood across the end of the lid, to the same height as the existing box sides. If you flip the lid over it will just look like you always intended it as a lid-pull.

You ain't the only one who's done the plagiarism thingie Dr. Al. :lol: I do it all the time and I pinched this idea for a very large pencil box:
