• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hi all a bit of time since last posting, but i have been busy with trying to get well enough to get back working in the workshop.

Have managed this now and have knocked out some puzzles see photos

the dragons are mdf painted with acrylic paints

but the other ones are what I like to call art puzzles just done with wood stain designed so each piece is one colour, they are made from 15mm thick lime and stained with chestnut products spirit stains before being varnished I think they work quite well

I needed puzzle for my next craft fair 20th thro 22nd at the pavillion at whitby if any ones around pop by for a chat

Excellent. How many of these types of article do you tend to sell at a craft fair if you don't mind me asking? They certainly stand out from the standard turners and bowls/platters but is there a market for them? I tend to scroll jigsaw puzzles of the standard type (typically calendar images in 6mm Baltic birch ply) but for fun rather than sale. I have often wondered about doing something like these, or the woodimal jigsaws that seem popular in the US, but they do not excite me in the same way as being clever with a figural or devious with colour line cutting does in a traditional image based jigsaw!

I normally sell about 10 or 15 at a three day show,I often do just polished wooden puzzles as well as these coloured ones usually a good thing to attrach people to the stand at the show to sell my more expensive items like clocks,automata or similar.

I like those Martin thanks for sharing. I am awaiting for the next generation to come along so I can make some more like that.
 
Thanks. My son was making automata at school last year - I think he rather surprised his technology teacher with what we managed to come up with between us, to the extent it still sits on the Teachers desk today as an example :D

I did the dog one many years ago.
If I remember correctly it was sold at a church fete for fund raising.

Thanks for looking at the puzzles, Whitby was pretty good show sold few of them plus quite a few of my relief plaques and pictures as well as some wood pendants pretty pleased overall. It’s always nice when people appreciate your work enough to buy it off you.
