• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Reacher

We're half way through the Amazon Reacher now. Thoroughly enjoying it (apart from the diction!). So much better than the Cruise version - much more true to the books.

Frustratingly, I need subtitles these days, but I would still need them if my hearing was fine, because of Roscoe's thrown-away lines. The actress is good in many ways, but the real skill of the job is pretending convincingly to do that (throw away dialogue), without becoming unintelligible, I.e. sotto voce. I have replayed several bits of dialogue repeatedly - she leaves out complete syllables and even whole words. Frankly it's an arrogance on the part of the director, wanting style over story.

But there have been some nice touches so far, such as the huge handgun Rosco lends to Reacher (and her reaction when she sees the effect of it), and the mayoral staff prop, and the interactions with the town barber.

But is it just me, or are all Amazon Prime progs graded to be underexposed? Star Trek Discovery, The Expanse, Picard, Reacher and their feature-length films all need adjustment on my tablet, whereas YouTube doesn't.

But I hope they do a second Reacher series.

E.

Season 2 was confirmed a while ago and is apparently in production. New cast apart from lead actor and possible flashback of the young man who played young Reacher in series 1, as the story always relocates.

No release date but predicted summer 2023.

I've never seen the films but the book(s) are simply appalling; I think I read the first paragraph of one and then gave up - Rob

Well, against my better judgement, I bought the latest book. I'm not that far into it but I can see that Lee Child's brother, Andrew, is starting to have more of an impact. We now have words with more than one syllable and sentences of more than three words.

Great fun to read.

I saw part of the Reacher film on Ch4 the other evening and quite enjoyed Cruise's portrayal of the character; quite enjoyable film but not nearly up to DW in 'The Equalizer' franchise.

Roger, disregard that utter bloody tosh and get stuck into 'Rogue Hero's' by Ben Macintyre and read about what really happened in the desert (and other places where the SAS operated) in WW2 - Rob

Yes, I read that too. He still seemed to be enthusiastic and it was interesting to read about his writing style and views on consistency.

I have the full set of books in English and most in Swedish......like em......
will look forward to the new movie.....

have u tried Frederick Forsythe....?.bit more interesting as far as keeping the brain going.....

wife's in the Uk now, getting the rest of that set....

no idea what t read after that....?.

Woo hoo!

Series 2 starts tomorrow ..... :eusa-dance:

Means I can ditch Vigil series 2. Vigil series 1 was excellent but series 2 is banal IMO.

Good news. It's always simple and predicable and non the worse for that ;)

And 10x better than Cruise :D

Oh ear....my aologies for alerting folk to this dire Series 2. The diction is awfgul - even for an American film. Dear actors....please look up and then practice 'enunciation'. The screenplay compared to the book is pretty duff as well.

I binged on the first 3, then waited for the 4th....only realised this evening that I'd not bothered with the 4th.
