Watched the first episode last night - looks like he's vertically challenged this time...
Spoiler alert! Reachers survives injuries that would kill anyone else, the bad guys get their come-uppance, and Reacher rides off into the sunset with nothing but the clothes on his back and a toothbrush. No spoilers please chaps.
Since when did the facts ever get in the way of a good storyFormulaic/flawed plot, terrible dialogue and some of the most wooden acting in the history of drama makes it pretty much unwatchable imho. It's in the same bracket as SAS Rogue Heroes which (again imho) should have been consigned to the cutting room floor for the way it mis-portrayed Paddy Mayne.
It did have that disclaimer at the start but I still think it would have been a story better told without the Peaky Blinders treatment!Since when did the facts ever get in the way of a good story
The intro, IIRC, to each episode does make it clear that it was not a history lesson.
I’d like to think that I am not the only one, having read Macintyre’s books and watched the series, that was inspired to find out more. There was an excellent obituary in the Telegraph a year or so back for example of the last “original”, Mike Sadler.

What ? !!!! What ? !!! SAS Rogue Heroes is brilliant. It let the real Paddy Mayne emerge in Series 2...... It's in the same bracket as SAS Rogue Heroes which (again imho) should have been consigned to the cutting room floor for the way it mis-portrayed Paddy Mayne.
That was far from a realistic portrayal of Paddy Mayne. For starters he rarely swore! What ? !!!! What ? !!! SAS Rogue Heroes is brilliant. It let the real Paddy Mayne emerge in Series 2
It certainly is.You forgot something Steve, the bad guys can’t shoot straight, Reacher never misses.
Still a riveting watch though.
I've persevered and got to book 3 ... agree it works better with Gary Oldman! Not Reacher but in a similar vein I’ve watched all the Slow Horses series on Apple TV and enjoyed them immensely. Gary Oldman is outstanding. So I thought I’d give the books a go. Started with the first one and couldn’t get beyond the first chapter. Appallingly badly written, and even though I recognised the plot of episode 1 it was indecipherable.

I'm currently rereading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo having watched the film again on a flight recently. A very good film but I find the book better. Shame Stieg Larsson only had time to write a trilogy.
I agree re the Scandi films Al - and of course they did three films to cover the trilogy. The books are definitely better than the Scandi films and the Scandi films are much better than the Daniel Craig one! The follow-on books (by different authors) that I've read seem good (e.g. The Girl in the Spider's Web), but I haven't read all of them yet. I just checked wikipedia and it looks like there are 8 of them now, so I'm a little behind.
Ah, Connelly's Bosch. Excellent books but the choice of actor for Bosch for me did not meet my imagined BoschI agree re the Scandi films Al - and of course they did three films to cover the trilogy.
The follow on books that try to emulate Larsson don't work for me. I think it's hard enough to keep the continuity of the characters and particularly so if the author also changes. Michael Connelly has done it well with the Bosch/Lincoln Lawyer/Ballard books imho.
Same for me with Rebus - closest in my head is Warren Clarke from Dalziel and Pascoe - stocky, blunt, antagonistic - perfect Rebus! To come full circle, most miscast individual ever was Tom Cruise as Reacher, all 5'7" of him. Alan Ritchson is much closer to the books in terms of physique!Ah, Connelly's Bosch. Excellent books but the choice of actor for Bosch for me did not meet my imagined Bosch
Agreed, in spades, and not only the central character, but also a lot of the supporting ones were 'modified' to suit Tinseltown. Travesty.Ah, Connelly's Bosch. Excellent books but the choice of actor for Bosch for me did not meet my imagined Bosch
