• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

My latest isolation resulted in these two.

One made from tulip wood and the other I think is English Oak.

The oak has really come up beautiful in the knurly bit. The larger of the two I have painted in the style of Matt Kenney to colour code the way the lid goes on. The grain on the oak version shows which way the lid goes on.

I've lined the inside bottoms with purple suede and I've lined the underside with purple baize.

I have made some box's in the past, not B-sawn, using quarter sawn red oak. I'll look for photo's.

I used green paint to pick out the green grain in the tulip wood. I only have green and purple felt, so two different greens might have screamed. Anyway, the felt it not seen when the box is sat on a table.

(I also only have four paint pots, green, red, yellow and blue, all match pots from Wilko, but all rather earthy shades of those colours.)
 
You are obviously getting the hang of the technique Malc.
Personally I can’t see the point of the paint. If it is just to show which way the lid goes then I would rather see a small dark wood inlaid stringing running from the lid to a side. Or a couple of dots, anything but paint.
But that’s just me.
