Hi Chaps

Here is a couple of things I made recently, first a bog oak carrier for a pair of Salter salt and pepper pots, I bought them from eBay in a bad state but they strip down easily and with some paint striper and satin black they come up well, I made knobs from ebony and fitted new caped star washers to finish them off.
Now we have one set in the kitchen and one on the dining table.

Second is a cup carrier for my wife who has dystonia which makes her hand shake so carrying a tray is very difficult for her, its 6mm birch ply with a 3mm base all half lap joints cut by hand apart from the grove for the base (router table)

They look good. The tray is a very clever design. My mother in law has a very bad intention tremor and I think should could benefit from something like that.

Like the design of both Pete. As Nick says the design for the cup carrier is well thought out. How did you join the oak?

I now have a search set up for salter mills on ebay! I like those a lot.

Nice one on the mug carrier. My Mum had Parkinson's and relied heavily on things like this.

Thanks chaps.

The Salter grinders came in red and green, cheaper than black.

The bog Oak is joined with wedged tenons I used box wood wedges.

I use the cup carrier to take drinks down the garden.

Those grinders are magnificent!! Nice work on the holder too Pete.

The grinders are a fantastic piece of design, originally made by Spong, they are cast alloy often described as cast iron but they are a link alloy with plastic liners. The lid of the salt one has some pitting and took a while get out and cleaning up.

My first set where red and had been painted green very poorly.

Rather delightful.
Id put those mills as design iconics, bested inly by real peugeot.

Not enough bikkie space on that tray, you'd have to get rid of a cup.
