• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Support for the Worksharp in the UK is non-existent. Contacting Worksharp, they tell you that Rutlands handle it. WS are clearly disinterested in the UK market since Rutlands don't list them and so go figure. :(

So I need some replacement abrasive discs. 150mm self-adhesive. Grit size ...much wider range than the 120 or 180 usually found. But I've drawn a blank and so am now thinking about making my own from abrasive sheets and using photo-mount adhesive. I have several questions though :

1) What is the type of abrasive that I should be looking for? Zirconium oxide ?

2) Is Photo-Mount adhesive the best choice ? How easy would it be to replace the disc at a later date ?

TIA

Are they likely to be available in Europe Rog? Happy to help. Have you got a link to a UK site for what you need?

Are run of the mill abrasive discs no good Roger? I use 250mm self adhesive ones on my belt and disc sander and they work well. The last lot I bought on the auction site are plastic backed and peel off rather than tearing into bits like card backed ones.

How fine to they go down to ? I need discs that are 400, 1000, 3600 grit.

Ah yes, good point. I doubt they go much finer that 400g.

Edit: These go down to 1000g, there may be finer ones?

A certain Mr S. Nubbs of Saginaw Valley just makes his own discs from MDF and glues emery paper on them, he even put a video out about them

Thanks Andy. No UK link available. These are the sort of things I'm after

or variations thereof. I'd be surprised though if they were available in Europe.

Scroll down that page and “ask the CEO” might be worth a try.

I tried that, Dave. They re simply not interested in this market. :(

That’s Americans for you.
Special relationship (but only) when it’s to their advantage.

Thanks, Woodster. I've taken a punt on one of those diamond discs...bit of a shipping wait though unfortunately. :(

The other intriguing product someone suggested elsewhere but more suited to an angle grinder is the Rebel 1 range from CIBO. Something called a 'unitised disc'.

There seem to be lots of discs that go as fine as 3000g but they are either foam or Velcro backed so not much good for your application.

In the end I did Ask the CEO. I read his Mission Statement. Might just as well have been the Missionary Position for all the good it did.

No reply.
