• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hello everyone, new member here. I will shortly be building a large boat (48 foot clinker planked), and will happily post photos of the process, but in the meantime, here's some work on a nine-foot dinghy I've been building, sort of as a "warm-up" project (and this will also be the tender for the larger boat). I don't take as many photos as I should do, because I also film the process for a YouTube series, and filmography tends to distract me from photography!

Welcome from Mid-Devon. I like a nice boat build. Used to live at Flackwell Heath, if you're the Bucks Bourne End.

I had planned to be building a 22' clinker boat around now......but a short discussion about our priorities led me to quickly see the error of my ways. So, I get my boat-building vicariously instead, unfortunately. And dammit, Leo's finished. I wish you'd hurry up and lay down your centreline timbers!!

It's been an impatient wait, I had originally planned to start in August but there have been multiple difficulties with finding a place for the build. 2 January is the confirmed start date!

Oh good, I look forward to that very much. I reckon boatbuilding is the only good traditional woodworking to be found on the internet.

Yes, copper nails and roves. When I went to boatbuilding college, they all told me that everyone quickly gets tired of roving, but that's never happened to me, I love it.

Great project. Which boatbuilding college did you go to? I had a peek at the one in Lyme Regis a few weeks ago.

IBTC Lowestoft. They and Lyme Regis are, I believe, the only 1-year, full-time boatbuilding colleges left in England, after IBTC Portsmouth closed down a couple years ago.

These guys are usually at Harrogate show and I always spend time on the stand admiring the work on display.

Photo from yesterday. Steaming in plank 18, only 4 left to go after this. Meanwhile, the larger project will be starting this month, going to look at some massive oak planks this weekend.
