• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A very sad week this week as on Wednesday we had to say goodbye to our beautiful 19½ year-old Bramble. I feel absolutely gutted and it still hasn't really sunk in: after 19 years of living with her it doesn't seem quite real that she's gone. I keep expecting to see her and keep thinking I've caught a glimpse of her out of the corner of my eye.

A few photos of her in memorium...

Enjoying my lap (she generally preferred Carolyn's, but occasionally she would deign to sit on me):

Checking out the new workbench in the garage:

Jackdaw-spotting:

Enjoying the warmth of a heated pad (she was getting old and we were getting soft!)

"Her" laptop case:

Her favourite spot in the garden:

Although the middle of the lawn was okay too:

Her paws didn't get much use as she generally preferred them to be up in the air:

We miss you so much Bramble.

So sorry to hear that mate. I was only contemplating this the other day as out Maisie is 16 1/2 and still in surprisingly fine fettle, but she is old...

Very sorry indeed. I still remember with sadness the deaths of each of my much loved golden retrievers. The matriarch, Sasha, died 30 years ago and these things stick in the mind.

Thanks for all the thoughts.

The cat I grew up with, Bandit, lived to the ripe old age of 22. I was gutted when she finally passed away (about 16 years ago now).

At least this time we had Bramble's sister to come home to. Treacle's 19½ too but still running around and playing like a kitten. She's completely deaf but very loud and very willing to tell us everything we're doing wrong.

Sorry to hear that Al, part of your family for 19 years can't do anything but hurt now.

Out Lab is 10 and follows my wife around like a shadow. I remember only too well losing our last one 20 years ago and I'm dreading what's to come as my wife will be completely devastated. It makes no difference that you know from the beginning it's going to happen one day

What a beautiful cat. Full of character. It’s rough to lose a friend of 20 years. We said goodbye to our 22 year old black & white last year. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Sorry to here that Al, they really do become a part of a persons life. I cant imagine what my wife will be like when our russel goes, hes only 14 but when you've had animals for along time you can tell.

Sorry mate it’s not nice loosing a pet, our last cat Otis suddenly collapsed and we had to have him put down all in one day.

Yes, it's hard when they go but that's just the reflection of the pleasure they gave throughout their lives. Your lovely Bramble reminds us very much of our Tom, a tom who was a real thicko but we loved him. At the same time we had Harry (not a dick between them); he was very adventurous and would go off on safari for days at a time. He never came back after his last adventure. By then he was getting poorly and we assumed he took himself off to pass away. Several years later I was grubbing out a hedge and came across a cat scull....... He was the most affectionate cat we ever had.
After our last dog had to be put down and after 9 cats and 5 dogs in our lives (including childhood pets), we decided no more. We now enjoy other peoples pets.

Been there done that earlier this year with our near identical tabby Izzy. Still feels wrong leaving the front door open as she never went street side.

She's not the one on the left ;)

Yes it is hard when they go, but you have lots of good memories. I hope they over come the sadness of the loss.
We are now catless, it does seem strange not to see one looking down from the workshop roof, checking if I am mowing the lawn in straight lines.

We lost our two British Blue's (mum and daughter) some years ago, but recently owing to the activities of Brother Putin we've recently had a Ukrainian lady, her daughter and cat move into the flat next door, so Moussa:
