• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I've just asked him to make me a dozen or so service boards
Rather than derail @RogerS thread and picking up from your comment @AJB Temple, I'm curious as to what a "service board" looks like , a pal of mine who runs an outside catering business asked me to make some platter type trays for serving, he's also talking about having some with a slate in set, which is heated up for serving steaks on, and for keeping food warm, I've no idea how practical they really are or if they are are worth my while looking at making, pictures of one type he's interested in, apparently £80.00 to buy:

I could make some similar, at little expense other than time, as I seem to have rather a lot of short Oak planks laying around.

This site popped up when I googled “restaurant service board”.
Seems to me to be a hybrid of a tray and a plate.

Thanks Windows, good site for a laugh

When we eat out, specifically burger places, the burger is served on a piece of wood with some paper on it and then the burger. Sauce running all over, very unhygienic!
So waitron we want plates, ceramic plates.

Only just saw this. What I mean was small wooden boards to serve a cup of espresso and a couple of petit fours on at the end of a meal. There will be an indent routed out to hold the cup in place, and possibly some recesses for the sweet treats. My wife produced some AI generated designs on Canva that we are discussing at the moment. Will probably be done on CNC machine but may turn out to be uneconomic. Have also had a similar discussion with a lady who makes ceramics.

Some interesting items in that link @Windows , I'll forward that on, he might have a rethink!, I did ask him originally if had he run out of plates.

He came to see me a while ago with some big log slices he'd bought, and wanted me to clean them up, but by the time I got to look at them they'd all cracked and split.

Its beyond me why they want to serve food on a plank, but there seems to be plenty of them being made and sold.

We use plates or dishes for pretty much everything. Bone china usually. We use a triangular wooden board with carved mice as cheeseboards or a Bavarian version thereof. I too dislike food served on slates. We don't do burgers, but when we are out I agree that bits of paper underneath are annoying, especially with sauces. The petit fours platters are intended to speed up service delivery and add elegance, as well as having fewer things to plonk down in front of guests.
