• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

When I first got married the wife took me along to the Ideal Home Exhibition in Belfast, would have been early 90s. I was surprised to find that a lot of woodworking tools were being demonstrated. One of the tools was a Shopsmith. The demonstrator was very good and made it look easy to shift from one function to another.
Even with my limited knowledge back then the Shopsmith looked over complicated and awkward to use and I see the company is now looking for a buyer.Screenshot.png

This was one of the first machines I saw being demonstrated for woodworking. I think it was at a wooden boat show on the Thames somewhere back in the early noughties. I was tempted, given the space I had available at that time.

I think the variable drive at the time was similar to a DAF transmission, but I believe they changed to electronic control latterly.

Early 1992 I won one in a competition. I gave it a fair amount of use for 17 years until I sold it, I moved house just after I won it. I'm surprised they lasted so long, though, like many multi purpose machines they are not particularly good at any one thing.
