• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

For those of you using SketchUp and who might be interested, the latest version has been released. I've been using it and it's very nice. Graphics look better, there's new handy inferencing points and face locking for rectangles and a bunch of other cool stuff.
-A completely revamped graphics pipeline
-High DPI support! ( I can hear the sigh of relief all the way from Boulder )
-Transparency Improvements
-Custom Color Axes and Inferencing to improve accessibility for color blind users
-Plane Locking for Rectangles using the arrow keys
-Offset 2.0 – now without overlapping!
-Perpendicular Face Inferencing (i.e. inference the Normal of a face)
-Component Origin Inference
-Group to Component. When you convert a group to component you can specify all the same attributes as -you would when creating a component from scratch.
-Better organization for reference files. Material, styles, components, templates, and more are in folders align with Operating System best practices. In this release, we’ve made it much more obvious where all this content lives on your machine (see Preferences > Files), and also a lot easier for you to access it outside of -SketchUp (should you need to migrate it, back it up, or just fool around).
-Extension Manager: A new utility for SketchUp extensions, Extension Manager is a one-look view of your installed SketchUp extensions. From here, it’s easy to toggle on and off the extensions you’d like to have handy (or uninstall them entirely). Extension Manager also provides easy access to the Digital Signature of extensions, an indication they’ve passed our team’s standards for quality and security.

Both SketchUp Make and SketchUp Pro are updated. If you are just using SketchUp for personal projects, make sure you tell them that so you get Make with the 30 day trial of Pro. Otherwise you get Pro with a 30 day trial of Pro. At the end oif 30 days, Make reverts to Make and Pro quits until you enter a license. Or you have to uninstall it and install Make.

BTW, is it possible to import models from a pervious versions to latest versions, e.g. a model designed in SU16 into SU17?

Yes. Older models can always be opened by a new version but older versions can't open models made in a newer version. You can use Save as and change the file to an older SU version.

And, FWIW, as with every version of SketchUp, it installs as a separate program on your computer. So don't uninstall and older one. Just install the new. This gives you an opportunity to go back to the previous one if you need.

I thought of a couple of important points for those installing SU2017. If you are on a PC, make sure you right click on the installer and choose run as administrator.\

If you use any plugins or extensions, make sure you install fresh. Don't copy them over from an older installation.

Think I need to do some uninstalling first. Sketchup doesn't seem to upgrade it just add another version.
I have sketchup8, sketchup2015 and 2016 in my programs list occupying 700 odd Mb.

Robert, the only reason you would need to uninstall an older version is because you don't have enough space on your machine. Dump SU8 and SU2015 if you must.

46 free of a 256Gb SSD C: drive so I might have a tidy up soon.
